I have been to a gay pride parade and you are mistaken. They are not disgusting unless, of course, you are so filled with hatred that you think that gay people themselves are disgusting.

Mostly they are church groups, charities, health organizations, local businesses, community support groups, and clubs for those with shared interests (hiking, cycling, bowling, etc.)

The answer to your question is contained within your question: Seeing themselves as ministers of God is what allows them to look in the mirror and see a good person who was/is doing the right thing. They have chosen a conception of god that is in a perfect symbiotic relationship with their own natures.
