Just a quick note of appreciation, Jim.

I am a regular reader of your blog & appreciate your cool & detailed analysis. I got some annoying spam this morning from "The Traditional Values Coalition." The name "lou Sheldon" was not familiar to me. I clicked around their website, made note of the claims they were making and wondered if anyone had responded to (at least some of) their claims.

And, of course, you had....

Thanks for all the work that you do. on this site.

C'mon Jim.

You know they don't have to tell the truth, they have Truth.

With Truth, whatever they say is justified by God - which trumps objective reality.

Thanks for taking this one on Jim – especially for that little "name-calling" stunt. I read that the other day and just about flipped out of my chair. Good to know that the TVC/CWA/FOF definition of name-calling is being pondered..

Name-calling: Intimidation that implies threat of bodily harm.</i<
~~~
And just for the fun of it:
Bodily-harm: physical contact that is perceived to be aggressive.
"They claim that this is an epidemic, [but] two thirds of the ‘hate crime’s statistics’ are for ‘aggressive-contact’"
Intimidation is generally defined in law as threats that would lead a person of reasonable sensibilities to believe that he or she is in danger of bodily harm.
It is defined elsewhere in federal law as "An act or behavior to compel or deter an action by coercion, extortion, duress or threat."
As a comparison, Canadian Hate Crime Statistics were broken down a little further noting the modality of the crime, the consequences and associated danger. The reality is, not one of the reported hate crimes involved charges against any religious organizations for expressing their negative views on gay people, not one. The summary includes the following:
"Individuals targeted because of their sexual orientation were more likely than other groups to suffer violent crimes, including assault and uttering threats."
"Approximately 46% of gay and lesbian victims of hate crime were injured as a result of the incident, almost twice the proportion of 25% among hate crime victims in general."
"Individuals targeted because of their sexual orientation were more likely than other hate crime victims to suffer violent crimes. Among violations, victims of sexual orientation hate crimes experienced assaults in 41% of incidents, followed by slightly more than one-quarter mischief or vandalism (27%) and uttering threats (14%)."
Statistics aside, sad reality is a greater number of physical assaults and assaults on our human dignity go unreported. Great job in breaking down the TVC's obvious spin on statistics.
Well now, once again these organizations prove themselves to be "Christians" of a rather interesting order - meaning some strange cult which believes bearing false witness is perfectly acceptable as long as it furthers a political agenda.
