This is usually a more carefully considered decision than snapshots shared among family members. I can certainly understand though if Mary doesn't think she's quite ready for her close-up. I personally didn't want to be in snapshots -- I felt like I'd been hit by a bus -- luckily, I'm not famous enough for the media to try to capture my image for posterity! Every parent is different (and the stresses of public attention can only make things more difficult), but personally I was proud as could be of having my child photographed whether I was in the picture or not.
