If you think gays have it bad, you might feel a little better remembering that trans people have it much worse. Obama ignored one question on gays, but rarely does any government official even acknowledge the existence of trans people.

On the bright side, repeating history shows that when people become aware of bigotry, that bigotry will lessen over time and eventually. The only issue is 'how long.'

Thank you Mr. Kincaid. I think the valuable information you provided will be taken more seriously now. Now that the distraction has been removed I'll be the first to say that the expose made my blood boil!

All I can say at this point is it's clear that gay Democrats, Like Log Cabin Republicans, have a lot of work to do in order to change our party from the inside. I do think however, that a gay person would have to be a fool to think that the best way to punish Democrats for their gay policy/outreach/support shortcomings is to support a political party that: seated Scalia, Thomas and Alito on the Supreme Court; has made gays and their families enemy one through hateful and hurtful rhetoric purely for political purposes; sponsors, supports and finances anti-gay marriage amendments at the state and federal levels; supports continuing DADT; is against gay inclusive hate crimes legislation; is against ENDA; and who pander incessantly to their far-right, anti-gay, Christian fundamentalist base.

It may be the lesser of two evils but, in my opinion, the Democratic Party is a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH lesser evil.

Neither party is particularly worthy of respect. they are both responsible for the mess this country is in--the repubs moreso than the dems, and wrose for our people. Whether repub stupidity and hatefulness, or democrat stupidity and timidity, the constitution is slowly being dismantled, we are sinking into a pool of debt that will drown us, our credbility around the world is plummeting.

but cheer up. the guv'mint is gonna send us all $600 (that it doesn't have) to shore up the economy (which it won't) by giving $50 billion to corporations. and the queers won't be able to marry, which solves all problems.

Very pathetic. i'm glad my husband's german, because I will be getting an EU passport in the next year or two.

You know what Mr. Kincaid, I and other Democrats would believe that you were truly concerned and acting with jounalistic integrity if you didn't cleverly slip in the word play of right wing nuts.

You know good and damned well that it is the DemocratIC Party but you continue to call it the Democrat Party with the smuggness of Tom Delay.

In so doing you come off as a concern troll rather than a thoughtful journalist.

Is it really worth having your wise words dismissed just because you can't resist shooting one across the Democrats bow?

"It’s time to stop pretending that second-class is worthy of praise."

For a little perspective, maybe TK could give us a synopsis of the McCain/Huckabee/RNC positions on this question. I wouldn't settle for riding second class either, but it sure beats being dragged behind the bus on a rope.
