Presumably, Shirley is the next in line when Fred is gone. Wouldn’t be too far off the mark to assume that Shirley has a protege’ in the wings.

Google “Addicted to Hate” and you’ll find a biography that Phelps successfully kept from being published, but found a life of it’s own online. There’s at least one Phelps that escaped the insanity.

If the intent of the protest is to get Phelps and his crew to change their minds, then no, it won’t work. Nothing ever will.*

I took this more as an affirmation that pretty much no one, even in Kansas, will tolerate their hateful point of view. It certainly made my day.

*-I do wonder what will happen when Phelps himself, and perhaps Shirley Phelps-Roper, finally shuffle off this mortal coil … it seems like the church is mostly held together by their force of personality and their hold over the rest of them. From the BBC interviews a couple years ago, it’s not hard to imagine the rest of the family’s faith ebbing once those two aren’t around to harp anymore …

This doesn’t work. Phelps and his church-family thrive on the protests of others. They believe that the true christians will be persecuted and hated by all – so the more people protest, the stronger their convictions get.
