Since when has SPLC been discredited. I have heard that before, but only from people that were identified as a hate group or had their pet project labled as hate. Lou Dobbs hates SPLC because they are in favor of immigration rights. I'm betting that they wouldn't be calling SPLC names if they hadn't been called out.

Junius,

Thanks for the link.

<blockquote>And who cares about polygamy laws? They should carry no more weight than laws against homosexual marriage. Eighteen states, including Texas, have statues or constitutional bans against homosexual marriage and they're almost never enforced. Imagine cops smashing down the doors of a Texas home to arrest two women living in marital bliss.</blockquote>

The editorial board doesn't know the difference between cohabitation and legal marriage? Either they are startlingly unaware of the issues of the world around them or they are dumber than a box of rocks. Maybe both.

Actually I live in Colorado Springs. I prefer the more open-minded (but no less controversial) "Independent". Unlike the "Gasette" they aren't owned and operated by religious fundamentalists in California with financial and political ties to Focus on the Family. Oh you didn't know that? Of course the Gazette will rush to the defense of the hate-speakers. To do otherwise would be like biting the hand that feeds you. The populace of course largely supports the Gazette's crazed rantings, to the point that they will voluntarily censor news journals that disagree with the party line.

One time I was sitting in Starbucks, reading the Independent, minding my own business, when in waltzes a middle-aged, overweight, sweaty guy in a cheap suit. Typical Conservative Republican in other words. And in typical Conservative Republican fashion he just could not mind his own business. When he saw what I was reading he literally flushed with rage. He marched up to the front and completely dressed-down the poor girl behind the counter in front of everyone. Then with a searing glare at me he plopped his ample behind in a chair and sorted out all the unapproved reading material from the leftover paper rack and stuffed them quite dramatically into the trash bin (bypassing the paper recycling bin altogether). It took every ounce of my strength to keep from pointing and laughing at the fat turd.

That's life in Colorado Springs though. If I wanted to live in a less oppressive regime I would have moved to Denver and lived in the Cap Hill gay district. But I've always liked a challenge.

They cite the KKK, but hate the organization that put it out of business. What a shame that we don't have the power to put them (that is, this newspaper) out of business by boycotting their sponsors.

Also: http://www.gazette.com/opinion/view_35721___article.html/crusade_weirdos.html

They support the polygamist kooks who throw out their boys, so that they can have the girls for themselves. Also, it draws a parallel between gay marriage and polygamy, and between consenting sex between teenagers and forced marriages/molestation to/by older men. Also, they claim that laws against gay marriage are almost never enforced. I think the editorial board may have some mental issues.

To tell you the truth, I'm really not surprised to hear this kind of editorial out of a newspaper that's based in the mecca of extreme-right Christianity. If the truth was known, Grand Ayatollah Dobson probably owns a piece of the "Gagzette" as one commenter on their site put it. As for the SPLC, I have a lot more respect for them than in this "thoroughly discredited" rag.

That is too much. On what basis do they declare the SPLC "a thoroughly discredited organization"? How ironic considering they're defending Cameron, who has been thoroughly discredited by numerous professional groups--none of which I need to outline for you.
