I always thought that the Republicans tended towards libertarianism, which would surely approve of removing restrictions from people’s lives? Does the religious right still hold sway?

Funny, I thought it was Republicans not too long ago suggesting a federal amendment to ban gay marriage instead of talking about the economy, health care, and the wars (please don’t forget our soldiers in Afghanistan).

Precisely what I have been thinking. The wingnuts bleat defend marriage when we’re 9 Tril in debt, in a war for no discernable reason that is going badly, an economy that is tanking with prices rising 20% in the last six months for many items.

If the wingnuts starting doing that (fairly certain) and Dems are smart (unfortunately, probably not) they will say; “Why in hell are you worried about a small minority having equal access to their rights as citizens instead of the serious issues of…”
