There are shades of LGBT support. McCain is better than most Republicans for opposing a federal marriage amendment. Obama isn't the best or worst either as he supports civil unions but not marriage.

I agree with Mr. Kincaid. We should have separate threads for bashing politicians. There could be categories for how they're done in; on their own, wholesale, by affiliation, by office and whether describing them as politicians is fitting or euphemistic.

OK, some new rules on this thread going forward:

1. Keep the comments relevant to the thread. ie. this is not a bash-McCain posting, this is about LCR and McCain meeting.

2. Any claims (whether about pandering or what was said or the purpose of the meeting or anything else) will need to be substantiated. Idle speculation, bilious ranting, and wild-eyed accusations will be deleted.

ps. these "new rules" are our same old rules that we require for all comments.

Yeah, you're right, that's the worst pandering ever.

It's nothing like the shameless way John McCain plays the "captured war hero" card at every turn, then shameless votes against our troops/veterans at each and every opportunity.

Because you're right, RHETORIC is what's really important, not actions.

I would like to ask these commenters how they would react to Obama visiting some gay-rights group. He's pandered much more than McCain has. Ever listened to his substance-free rhetoric on free trade, which he knows is best for the country but can't dare to support in public?

What he was probably doing was informing the Log Cabin Republicans that he is going to throw them under the bus. He's planning to use a two-pronged fear mongering approach to his campaign. To unite the warhawks under his banner: terrorist threats. To unite the fundamentalist morons: Teh Gheys.

He was telling the LCR to shutup and not cause waves or no tax cuts for them.

Awww, this is cute.

Let's mend fences after McCain is defeated in November. He's shown himself repeatedly to be willing to pander to pretty much anyone in his desperate bid for the presidency, and he's changed his positions in the wrong direction repeatedly.

I don't even care about the gay issues, specifically, this election -- there's far too much at stake. Luckily, the best candidate on all the issues happens to take a more progressive stance toward gays than any candidate up to this point.

"Keating Five" McCain's record has been overwhelmingly heterosexist. He's just showing that he believes P.T. Barnum's truism:

There's a sucker born every minute.

<i>"Senator McCain has routine personal meetings that are not shown on the Senator's public schedule..."</i>

Yeah right. Keep telling yourself that.

Translation: McCain meets with gays, but is too cowardly to tell anyone.

He's basically engaging in the political equivalent of cruising in the back room, and the self-loathers in the LCR are celebrating?

Plus ca change...
