AFA’s Latest Email Perfectly Illustrates Their Fixation With Man On Man Sex

I just received an email from the AFA’s “One Million Dads” campaign “alerting” me to the grave danger that awaits young children in any public library with a reasonably stocked gay and lesbian studies section Barnes and Noble bookstores.

In Collierville, Tennessee, recently, an 11 year-old boy named Landon Howse was walking through the Barnes & Noble bookstore when he noticed a book lying open on one of the reading area tables. His dad, Brannon Howse, was right behind him. What Landon saw were graphic pictures of two men engaged in sex. The book was titled “Ultimate Gay Sex,” and is one of the many sexually explicit books offered in Barnes & Noble stores.

[snip]

Since this story broke, AFA has learned that this is a serious problem in Barnes & Noble stores across the country. Many parents have written to say they have had the same type of heart wrenching experiences with their children as Barnes & Noble does not place the homosexual pornography behind the counter or even in a restricted area not open to minors. Anyone can go in and find it on the shelf. I wanted to warn parents and grandparents about this danger because this is the largest bookstore chain in America and other bookstores have similarly have no responsible policy when it comes to placing these kinds of books in theirs stores.

“Since this story broke” the AFA says? Odd how a Google News search for the father’s name turns up nothing.

But back to my main point. The offending book, “Ultimate Gay Sex,” or at least the one sold on Amazon.com is nothing more than a sex guide, a sex guide that happens to be written for gay people. Gay people of course enjoy reading about how they can improve their sex lives much as straight people do.

But alas the AFA hysteria alert makes no mention of straight sex guides sold at Barnes and Noble — yet another example of how the AFA is fixated on the sex lives of gays and lesbians more than any other group.

As a side note, Collierville hosted a Love Won Out conference earlier this year.

…an 11-year-old boy named Landon Howse, or maybe it was Billy Pseudonym…

I swear, these people aren’t even trying any more. I’m surprised they’re not still shouting about the Bolsheviks.

Wasn’t aware that bookstores in the business of selling books provided reading areas so people can sit at tables and read for them for free.

This is hometown news for me, and I HAD heard about it, but only on a Christian wingnut blog.

I’m surprised the Google search didn’t bring back anything because Brannon Howse is actually a right-wing Christian radio host in Memphis, definitely plugged in AFA’s Wingnut McCrazyland.

I’ll try to find the original article from several months ago.

Okay, this is Brannon Howse’s conservative Christian organization, the Christian Worldview Network: http://www.christianworldviewnetwork.com/index.php?home=true

Lots of revisionist history, impossible hair, and general ignorance to be found there.

And here’s the article where Brannon gives his firsthand account of the experience. Most laughable, yet offensive quote:

“I believe some homosexual or child predator was trolling and using the book to find a date or victim.”

http://www.christianworldviewnetwork.com/article.php/3604/Brannon_Howse

Stupid moron.

Um, Brannon? Memphis has a thriving gay community, and it’s not in your suburb full of cookie cutter of McMansions. (Wait, are AFA supporters allowed to live in McMansions anymore? Haha, new boycott!)

he is also running for mayor of Collierville, TN.

In fairness to Brannon Howse, he does bring up the issue of “heterosexual pornography” being equally accessible in Barnes and Noble. It was the AFA’s choice to drop that part and focus solely on the gay angle.

Granted, there’s plenty of other reasons to criticize Howse’s reaction to the incident with his son. But he can’t be criticized for ignoring the ease o access heterosexual sex manuals.

Yeah but that was after he went apeshit on B&N and gays:

Look, if I had an 11-year old kid, I wouldn’t want them to have such easy access to graphic images, and I know that AS an 11-year old kid, I did not want to SEE graphic images. Gay or Straight.

This is not a justification of the AFA’s actions. It is an opinion.

It’s not a question of certain books being easily accessible; this was a hit, Emily.

Yes, you don’t have to be a brain surgeon to know that there are ten times as many books in any bookstore about heterosexual sex acts. But only the gay ones need to be quarantined? Amazingly, accidental exposure to dad’s Playboy and Hustler collection much earlier than 11 somehow didn’t cause my eyes to bleed or turn me straight. Go figure.

Next up from the AFA: Homosexuals and/or child predators are breathing the same planetary oxygen as your children! Donate now!!

“In today’s program, Brannon exposes that lie that Hitler killed homosexuals. Even a homosexual writer admits that is false.”

Wait so if I understand this correctly father and son see a picture of a naked man and fatehr begins to fret. Also, if the book was open, the cover denoting it as refering to gay sex would only be discernable if said father stopped to examine the book.

So really the argument is that seeing a picture of a naked man would damge his son? Do they own a mirror in the house?

I have never understood the American taboo regarding the human body. A man can walk down the steet without a shirt no problem but a woman is “indecently exposing” herself for baring her chest. C’mon, lighten up; it’s just some skin.

I read the original story from June 7.

Elmer Gantry lives. Teary eyed assistant store manager? Makes a reference to a child being molested in the bathroom. A salacious detail that doesn’t appear in later tellings. Probably because he realized that police records can be checked. So if that was made up why not the whole thing?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
