Oklahoma Politician Writes Wacky Homophobic Comic Book

rinehart.jpgWhat is it about Oklahoma?

Fresh off Sally Kern’s rantings, we have Brent Rinehart, an Oklahoma County Commissioner, who has written a comic book demonizing (literally) homosexuals and “liberal good ol’ boys”.

You have to read this nutjobbery to believe it. And The Oklahoman has it here.

“This is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen,” said Keith Gaddie, a political science professor at the University of Oklahoma. “I’ve never seen a comic book with the phrase ‘anal sodomy’ in it before. That was a new one for me.”

In addition to fighting “pedifiles” (spelling and grammar aren’t his strong points), Rinehart rails against his political opponents with the help of an angel (opponents have a demon on their side).

County Assessor Leonard Sullivan (not pictured in the comic) perhaps said it best:

“I’ve really encouraged him on more than one occasion to get professional help. He really needs it,” said Sullivan, who is not depicted in the comic.

Brent completed the Roads scholars program? Does he mean: Rhodes Scholar? Or, is that a test for getting into the Oklahoma Department of Transportation?

Is it just me or does he look like the twin brother of the homophobic Attorney General of Alabama who got caught by his wife while he was getting it on with his MALE assistant?

How long before this prick finds himself involuntarily inducted into the Foley, Haggard, King, Schrock, et al Hall of Shame?

Art by Shane Suiters?

What, he didn’t even draw it himself? That’s shocking. I have seen comics drawn by 14 year olds that were much better than this. Seriously, I have.

If he got himself an artist, why didn’t he get one who could draw? Or who knows the first thing about making comics? Notice how in the first panel the devil says he hates the thruth before the angel has had a chance to deliver HER line? Amateurs.

Damn, bad comics AND homophobia in one stinky bundle. Today’s starting on a pet hate fest.

Most importantly, why does the “narrator” resemble Larry Craig?

Thank God, this guy has finally managed to nail himself to his own cross!
I’ve been waiting for this day for quite some time.
He will be gone soon.
As an Oklahoman, I feel ashamed that one of our mental patients has managed to parade about our streets, duping unsuspecting citizens into thinking he’s some sort of politician.
I apologize to the entire country and we hope to capture Brent very soon and put him back in the mental hospital to continue he treatment.
Again, we as Oklahomans are very sorry for this incident and the damage it has caused our state.

Your husband’s work is what we call “outsider art”. It could be by a mental patient, or a hillbilly, or a chimpanzee.

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

In this report, we explore the supposed connection between homosexuality and child sexual abuse, the conclusions reached by the most knowledgeable professionals in the field, and how anti-gay activists continue to ignore their findings. Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
