John McCain and his campaign are about to be getting all sorts of gay press.

Blogger Mike Rogers appeared on Michelangelo Signorile’s radio show today to reveal that Mark Buse, Senator McCain’s chief-of-staff, goes for the guys.

The GOP knows their far right, anti-gay message for the past 8 years have driven many from the party in disgust. They are laying low, trying to appear more moderate and inclusive because they need every vote they can get. But you can be sure, underneath the veneer, it’s the same old bigotry that ever was. Sad, because I used to be a Republican until the far right bigots destroyed the party.

The fact is, as Rush Limbaugh, James Dobson and a host of other bashers have recognized, with Palin on the ticket, the candidates are the message. The theocons will vote in droves. The campaign doesn’t have to focus on gay-bashing until after the election when they pay off “the base.” Right now, when they need every vote, they can dispatch the flunkies to dispense the kool-aid to anyone who’ll drink it.

Bruce has a good point. What did Schmidt say after, “the day is going to come.” The day is going to come ….. er, for what? I am a gay Republican ………. but, I must say, I would like more leadership on gay issues from Republicans that are gay friendly. I just have to admit that I don’t think that Obama is ready to be the President of these United States of America. However, if he is elected he will get my prayers.

Let me guess…and they just let that little unpleasant fact that McCain came out in support of California proposition 8, and Arizona’s own prior attempt to amend its constitution to ban same sex marriage, just pass on by without remark. The day will come…just not necessarily before the universe reaches maximum entropy.

Be interesting to see what happens if this story gets legs beyond the gay press…
