DiFi Says “No” to 8

Moderate Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein has finally spoken on her opposition to Proposition 8.

The views of Californians on this issue have changed over time, and as a State, I believe we should uphold the ability of our friends, neighbors, and co-workers who are gay and lesbian to enter into the contract of marriage.

I urge Californians to oppose Proposition 8.

DiFi now joins Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer and Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in opposition to this discriminatory measure. And if there are any statewide elected officials that support Prop 8, they’ve been awfully quiet about it.

I have a very long memory.

What choice did the lady have, after all? She could be for it or agin’ it, and since she hosted a wedding for two women twenty five years ago, long before reality was kicking her in the butt, she could hardly do the latter without looking like a major hypocrite.

Pardon me. My cynicism about the quality of our leaders must be showing. It’s hard for me to believe that they act from priciple, instead of from mere opportunity. I’m sure they would have the courage of their convictions– if they had any convictions.

Excuse me while I tidy up.

Sniff.

Ben the reason that these leaders including republicans like Schwarzenegger oppose the amendment is because they unlike crazies on the right understand that gender neutral marriage is an inevitability. Maybe it isn’t the right reason but at least they aren’t in denial like James Dobson, Beverly LaHaye, Don Wildmon etc.

Well screw her. I’ll never forgive her for so publicly blaming gays pushing for marriage for the Kerry loss in 2004 (even though polls proved that that was not the case). Besides, it wasn’t gay people, for the most part who were pushing the issue. It was mostly straight people looking to stir up a wedge issue during an election year.

DiFi has thrown the gays under the bus MANY times thoughout her political career. I find that to be all the more disgusting seeing as she’s from San Francisco.

I really despise the woman.

Thanks Di, we couldn’t have done it without you *rolls eyes*. I really don’t know what to say about Prop 8. I suspect that despite the opinion polls it will pass and strip gay and lesbian californians of their recent victory. It may pass by a slim majority but it will still pass. I say this as a natural born cynic. I’ve never had ‘faith’ in my fellow man to do the right thing. People lie about poll questions all the time to try and impress the pollsters. I honestly hope Prop 8 is defeated. Like all cynics I’m secretly pleased to be proven wrong. But I’m not going to hold my breath.

Better late than never, I suppose.

Kudos to Senator Feinstein for declaring her support in opposing Prop. 8

I’m sure that she has her dedicated followers and all the better that they will do her bidding.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
