<i>Re: "And these are the SAME people that believe that the tsunami of 2004 that killed over 300,000 people in over a dozen countries, as well as earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. are all because of gay people!"</i>

I have no evidence to suggest that the Liberty Counsel (is that what you mean by "these are the SAME people"?) took such a position. If you have evidence for it, please provide it.

If instead you meant to make a broad, sweeping generalization, please be aware that this is against our <a href="http://www.boxturtlebulletin.com/About/NoCrawl/CommentPolicy.htm" rel="nofollow">comments policy.</a> By "these are the SAME people," we have no idea who you're talking about.

Yes, there are specific people who have made this allegation about the 2004 Tsunami. As far as I can tell, the Liberty Counsel is not one of them. As for "these people", well, that's just a step away from "those people." And I think we all know where that leads.

I have a WaMu home mortgage (not in foreclosure, thankfully) and I am queer, so obviously I am the sole reason they went under.

Hmmm... apparently The Liberty Counsel is unaware that WaMu was purchased by JPMorgan Chase .. also a very active and visible "supporter" to the "homosexual agenda". I guess they're just so quick to pass judgement, they don't do their research first. In fact, it would be very hard to blame any of the current financial crisis on the "homosexual agenda" as the nation's strongest financial institutions such as JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, etc... have been regularly meeting HRC's Corporate Equality Index for a very long time. In reality, it actually looks like its "good business" to support us...

More than stupid…it’s intentional ignorance and obvious scare tactics. I’m still trying to figure out the logic where a Mormon Law Professor thinks gay marriage is a danger to society…akin to the dangers of second-hard smoke. You wonder if his pronouncements will enhance or denigrate the reputation of the J.R. Clark Law School on the campus of BYU

I hate to knock on evangelical Christians' religious beliefs, but I'm going to.

WaMu's failure was a result of the sub-prime mortgage crisis and the integral role in the crisis that it played. A person with a complex, rational world view understands this or at least presumes that some worldly miscalculation caused the bank's failure.

These people, on the other hand, have a world view in which good fortune and bad fortune are not the result of human actions or random chance but are in fact communications from God.

That's magical thinking, plain and simple. The respect that we're expected to afford these "people of faith" (which is usually meant only to include Christians of the Jerry Falwell variety) is beyond absurd. They deserve no more respect than a 40-year-old who still believes in the Tooth Fairy.

Maybe 'traditional marriage' proponents can use Microsoft's search engine. Or Yahoo's search engine. Maybe that would make them happy...

Wow ... that's just ... wow.

As complicated as the details leading to the current financial meltdown may be, it's hard to believe they can honestly or with a straight face try to lay the blame of WaMu's failure on its support of a "gay agenda." Unless, of course, they want to try to argue that the banks gave too many mortgages to poor gays who couldn't afford to pay back their loans. o.O

Their last paragraph displays a naivety about how the business world works, too, when they say basically that Google should "focus on technology rather than dabbling in gay politics." Let's spell it out for them: To make great technology, Google needs to be able to hire the best employees they can get. Sometimes those employees are gay. If Google can't offer gay employees the same benefits as straight employees, they may lose those employees to more progressive companies. If Google can support legislation or policies that will help even the playing field for all their potential employees, that is in their best business interest.
