Florida and Arizona Anti-Gay Activists Use Same Media Company

Remember those nearly identical television commercials running in Arizona and Florida in support of those states’ proposed “marriage amendments”? The Miami Herald has noticed them as well:

Bloggers have pointed out that new ad uses many of the same images and the same format as an ad running in Arizona. Arizona and California are also deciding whether to pass a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as between a man and a woman in November. Both the backers of Florida’s Amendment 2 and Arizona’s Proposition 102 hired the same media company, Stemberger said, but he said the fact that the ads were similar is “irrelevant.”

We posted both of those “irrelevant” ads alongside each other so you, too, can marval at the coincidences.

Very interesting. Some numbers don’t seem to add up. This is what I was able to dip up from the public records for Prop. 102 in Arizona and Amendment 2 in Florida:

Advertising Company for Prop. 102 in Arizona:
Design4 Advertising
106 N Collins St, Plant City, FL 33563
Purpose : Communications – Advertising
08/15/08 – $225,000.00
08/21/08 – $150,000.00
08/28/08 – $500,000.00
08/29/08 – $112,000.00
09/11/08 – $1,322,000.00
$2,309,000.00 – Cycle to date (09/22/08)

Still with me? Yes on Prop. 102 has spent over $2 Million dollars on advertising using the “Design4 Advertising” company based out of Florida! Hmmm, Florida. Over $2 Million dollars! Wow! You would think that with the State of Arizona being about $3 Billion dollars in the red, yes on Prop. 102 would show some Arizona PRIDE and buy LOCAL?!

Anyway, this is what I was able to dig up for the yes on Amendment 2 committee in Florida:

Advertising Company for Amendment 2 in Florida:
Design4 Advertising (Also spelled as “DESIGN FOR ADVERTISING”)
106 N COLLINS ST
PLANT CITY, FL 33563

Date: Paid To: Amount: Purpose:
04/24/08 DESIGN4 ADVERTISING $3,000.00 CONSULTING
08/14/08 DESIGN4 ADVERTISING $500.00 ADVERTISING
09/18/08 CCADVERTISING $5,000.00 ADVERTISING
09/25/08 GOOD NEWS $2,050.00 ADVERTISING
09/30/08 MAS COMMUNICATIONS $22,000.00 ADVERTISING
10/07/08 MAS COMMUNICATIONS $6,000.00 ADVERTISING
10/08/08 DESIGN FOR ADVERTISING $50,000.00 ADVERTISING

I added up the numbers and the campaign for yes on Amendment 2 in Florida has only spent $88,550.00 It seems the biggest bulk of their money has been spent on a company named “THE BROADCAST TEAM” doing direct mailings. To the tune of $378,725.00

Something doesn’t seem right.

Also, the yes on Prop. 102 campaign has paid out $171.00 in bank fees to Bank of America in Florida?!

They also paid $258.07 to PODS for storage space in Florida?

Amazing how much interplay there is amongst these two campaigns that are over 2,000 miles away from each other.

California – Vote “NO” on Prop. 8!
Arizona – Vote “NO” on Prop. 102! AGAIN!
Florida – Vote “NO” on Amendment 2!
Connecticut – Vote “NO” on Question 1!

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.
