Cub reporter Cowboy updating you on the latest developments:

In spite of the cold and rain the turnout at Library Square was commendable. About 500 supporters for gay family and friends showed up and utilized the amphitheater next to the Library to hold a vigil, of sorts, to demonstrate their disillusionment with the Mormon Church.

It was more somber and emotional than a gay rights rally would have been but most gleaned from the crowd a palpable feeling of understanding and support. Ex-Mormon Mother Millie Watts tearfully acknowledged the show of support and mentioned how it is Mothers who will come out of the closet to protect their sons and daughters.

The candlelight vigil was the top news on all the local TV channels. The Mormon Church declined comment.

Related news: On KSL TV news (which is owned by the Mormon Church) was an exclusive telephone interview with Steve Young. He remains adamant his stand on the Prop 8 issue is private and personal but he supports his family’s (wife Barbara in particular) announcement about not supporting Proposition 8. Apparently, Barbara has a gay brother.
