If we take the percentage of voters who self-identify as LGBT to be representative of the population as a whole it would suggest that LGBTs are 4% of the population. It works like this: if voters are 40% of the total population and LGBT voters are 4% of voters, that means LGBTs who vote are 1.6% of the whole population (4% of 40%). As you suggest, its hard to know if LGBTs vote at a higher or lower percentage than the population at large.</description>
