This thing is now going viral, complete with its own Facebook page. Ordinary folks, disillusioned by our “professional advocates,” have shoved them aside and are now taking matters into their own hands. The web site they’ve set up, Join the Impact, is calling for protests in more than 125 cities across America on Saturday November 15, at 1:30 p.m. EST / 10:30 a.m. PST.
Their web site has been had trouble staying online because of the heavy traffic. So I’m re-posting the information below after the jump.
Update: I’ve updated the post above to reflect the more active and most current web site. I’ve also updated the information below.
PROP 8 PROTEST – NOVEMBER 15th 10:30am PST / 1:30pm EST FIND YOUR LOCATION BELOW!

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.
When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.
In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Using the same research methods employed by most anti-gay political pressure groups, we examine the statistics and the case studies that dispel many of the myths about heterosexuality. Download your copy today!
And don‘t miss our companion report, How To Write An Anti-Gay Tract In Fifteen Easy Steps.
Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. In this report, we explore the supposed connection between homosexuality and child sexual abuse, the conclusions reached by the most knowledgeable professionals in the field, and how anti-gay activists continue to ignore their findings. This has tremendous consequences, not just for gay men and women, but more importantly for the safety of all our children.
Anti-gay activists often cite the “Dutch Study” to claim that gay unions last only about 1½ years and that the these men have an average of eight additional partners per year outside of their steady relationship. In this report, we will take you step by step into the study to see whether the claims are true.
Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council submitted an Amicus Brief to the Maryland Court of Appeals as that court prepared to consider the issue of gay marriage. We examine just one small section of that brief to reveal the junk science and fraudulent claims of the Family “Research” Council.
The FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.

The link still says the Seattle protest will be at City Hall. From my understanding, based on an article at TheStranger.com, the protest has joined with another and will begin at Volunteer Park at noon, not City Hall.

I seem to have omitted the listing for Washington entirely. My bad.
The web site is changing constantly. The international links were just added only in the past couple of hours. It will be impossible to keep up with it.
For the latest info, I encourage everyone to check with Join the Impact.

Dissing the local groups is silly. For instance, this group “scheduled” demos at city halls across the country, not having a clue whether city hall in a particular location made any sense at all. In one such location, there’s no legal demo space sans a permit, so they’re literally sending people to do civil disobedience without their knowledge or consent, which is a really lousy and unethical thing to do. In another one, the gathering space address is on a tiny street with a building behind it that’s closed on Saturdays in a downtown area that, on weekends, all but rolls up the sidewalks and will show up very badly on camera, have no public restroom access, and where the government is actually quite supportive of gay families, meaning they’ll be literally demonstrating against our friends instead of demonstrating at the places nearby where our enemies are. A simple look at the Marriage Equality website would’ve put them in touch with good local organizers who would never have made these mistakes and are now in the unenviable position of having to undo the damage with almost no lead time.

Consider this a personal plea…
In the past few days there have been several reports emerging out of Utah about Mormon properties having their windows shot out with BB-guns.
Now a report has emerged that in Littleon, Colorado, a fire outside a Mormon church is being investigated as a bias-motivated arson that may have stemmed from the church’s position on a gay marriage amendment in California because a church member found a burning copy of The Book of Mormon on a door step.
Now, so far, other than for supposition, there has been no direct linking between LGBT protestors or activists and these events.
I support the protests and acts of civil disobedience.
But this is a plea for Box Turtle Bulletin readers to encourage their friends and advocates if they are aware of people in our movement translating our legitimate anger into such acts, we remind them to be civil acts of disobedience, not hooliganism and not to transform legitimate expessions of anger into actual hatred or hateful bigotted acts.

So, should the Yes on 8 also come to protest our rights as well? I think we pretty much got our point across when we won on Nov. 4th.
