As you make clear, the AFA declared victory over a non-event. I guess that’s one way to rack up “wins” when your boycotts are generally ignored far and wide (except as objects of mockery).

As far as the point about McDonald’s not being part of the NGLCC, you’re correct, it was just one company officer who served on the NGLCC board and he did not do it in any kind of official capacity. I should’ve made clearer that the extent of the company’s direct involvement was donating $20,000 to help sponsor a fundraiser which they don’t plan to do again next year.

Also, it’s worth noting that McDonald’s still includes sexual orientation in its non-discrimnation policy and has at least one statement on its website touting it’s inclusion in HRC’s “Buying for Equality” guide. They’re “neutral” in the sense that they don’t discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. I can live with that kind of neutrality! Please just don’t ask me to eat there…

I may be misunderstanding your point, but McDonald’s was never involved, i.e. “aligned”, with the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in the first place.

Richard Ellis joined the GLCC as a personal decision outside of any role he held with his employer McDonald’s, just as the reason he resigned from the GLCC was that the GLCC is a US organization and he accepted a new position with McDonald’s in Canada.

What McDonald’s was “aligned” with was Richard Ellis, their employee, and his right as an individual to be involved in the GLCC as a matter of personal choice.

The whole AFA brouha was AFA saying because Ellis worked for McDonald’s the corporation was a member of the GLCC.

Also, pay careful attention to the wording by McDonald’s in that first quote.

McDonald’s has a rather different take on why they support diversity and inclusion than as defined by the AFA as a “homosexual agenda”. McDonald’s defines their support of diversion and inclusion in the workplace as that of civil rights.

The economic impact of the boycott is unclear; McDonald’s sales have continued to be strong. But Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, said the boycott was a success. “The fact of the matter is they’ve done what we’ve asked them to do,” he said.

Hey, I lucked out on this one, I am a Pepsi Drinker. I feel for my Coke drinking Friends. But I am right there with you on the McDaonalds, And the Clown caved.
