The only people anyone should feel sorry for in this situation is the wife and kids.

Ted Haggard fueled anti-gay sentiment and likely violence towards gay people, while he was messing around with men, himself. And with the new news, it looks like he was messing around with more guys than Mike Jones, and whoever participated in Ted’s meth parties.

I don’t get why the documentary sympathetically shows Haggard pretty much living as a drifter, when Haggard is responsible for many gay teens being kicked out of their homes, having to live on the streets, or bad conditions. Or like myself and many other gays, having to leave our “country” smalltowns, and forced to move to the city.

Nobody should feel sorry for Ted, but feel sorry for the wife and kids for being dragged through this mess, and having to put up with this humiliation.

Just read that a man from Haggard’s former church has come forward claiming to having had sex with Haggard. The senior pastor of New Life Church says the guy spilled the beans because he was upset over the documentary showing Haggart as a victim.

“Disgraced evangelical leader Ted Haggard’s former church disclosed Friday that the gay sex scandal that caused his downfall extends to a young male church volunteer who reported having a sexual relationship with Haggard — a revelation that comes as Haggard tries to repair his public image.”

Amidst all of the ugliness, thank you for reminding us that we need not lose who we are when confronted with such ugliness by responding in kind….

rather, by providing insight, compassion, and having a real awareness of our own humanity, we do not become ugly in dealing with ugliness….

I never loathed Ted. I was always saddened that people like him are conned with religion to hurt themselves and others that harm no one – gays.

The filmaker succeeded in just what she wanted – sympathy generated for poor Ted Haggard. Isn’t it amazing that we can shed a tear as such a sincere, earnest man attempts to rally his beautiful family in a quest for American faith, values, and patriotism. Yet we carefully ignore the goddamn reason this scandal arose in the first place. Haggard and his creepy crew damned gays to hell, fomented hatespeech and violence (even murder) against gays. This culminated in gays couples being divorced against their will in California. It’s very sad that you are conned so easily.

Swampfox– do you mean to say he might reflect on the harm done to him, and consider that it might reflect on the harm done to gay people by precisely the attitudes that his former “friends” have espoused?

Am I shocked that he has been shunned by his former network of friends?…….NO. I do wonder if he has reflected on his former ministry and the harm that his ministry did to those who are gay and lesbian.
