Clicking on the "WTHR Reports" link above still goes to a story about "the death of two men." Not sure if Ms. Williams' advice is being deliberately shunned or if this was overlooked...?

I fail to see how reporting that Taysia as though she were "a man" would help to find the killer. Had someone seen Taysia with a suspicious person, then this reporting by Jefferson would not encourage them to come forward and actually serves to hinder the search.

This is yet another example of bigotry masquarading as "accuracy".

What matters most of all, is she had a life, she was hurting no one and neither was her boyfriend.
When speaking about whether or not a crime against a member of the LGBT is a crime, the criteria are specific.

And usually that criteria is something those who dissent about hate crimes or about the gay and transgender community in general are ignorant of.

But the other part of the criteria is also how the media, law enforcement, jurors and judges ALSO view LGBT victims.

Near the first anniversary if the killing of 15 year old Lawrence King, rather than posit his killer's defense in a childhood of abuse, drugs and violence. The defense somehow uses King's sexuality and alleged flirting as a rationale for a cold blooded execution.

King AND his killer, Brian McInerney had difficult childhoods. King was'nt with his birth parents for that reason.

But you'd think King was the one who was dangerous for wearing lip gloss and talking back to McInerney according to the media and those who think actually behaving like a gay person should get you expelled.

It's not just the motive for a killing that matters, but if the victims have due sympathy after the fact that qualifies bigotry within any system that's supposed to be trusted with fairness and justice.

This poor woman and man who loved her! Not only am I sick at heart that this happened...
but the local media's lack of respect too.
