I found Cathy Falconer’s book Good as You yesterday in a Dublin bookshop. It’s very interesting. Perhaps you could talk about it when you get back. It’s short and cheap.

Feel better everyone who is under the weather.

You do a great job covering all the content that could be covered; I cant think of more you could do in that area. that being said…

One of my pet peeves at BTB is the seemingly constant spelling errors! I know you guys rush to finish a post and be the first with the breaking news, but sometimes it’s even in the titles!

I’m guessing that you guys probably can’t afford this, but it would be great if BTB could go ad-free. I get the feeling that this blog started out as a personal endeavor, but then grew into a much more serious website in the realm of an online publication. If you MUST subsist on having advertising on the site, I suggest you have political or non-profit ads instead of the ones you have now. You have become quite a popular, serious blog and I believe that ads displayed on a website need to reflect their content. I am much less likely to take a “heterosexual blog” (er, whatever) seriously if there are personal ads with bikini-clad models accompanying their articles. I say leave the shirtless man, gym, social, and “clothing optional” vacation ads for personal blogs – those with an agenda to be taken seriously should have ads for other agendas to be taken seriously.

I know that one of the reasons XGW has been resisting taking on ads is because we don’t want the “gay-targeted” ads to end up being those for hook-up sites or ads with shirtless men hawking clandestine rendezvous in Miami.

While still not technically on topic, I would really like to see a “Best of Box Turtle Bulletin” book which would be a collection of the best thought expressed in this forum. There have been some very lively and productive discussions here, and they deserve to be distilled down to their essence and read by a wider audience of gay leaders, activists, and politicians.

I think you could add more “award” categories. The Sally Kern-al of Truthiness Award for the most egregious comment of the week. The Ted Haggart Big Turkey Award for anyone whose little pop-out indicator has popped out and it’s time take him/her out of the oven and give it a rest. They’re done.

I’m thinking about the “series” of articles we read here. Very entertaining and informative. Like the journey to some ex-gay conference. The series, now, about what we should say to our political enemies…(waiting for the next two installments).

I’m trying to drudge up some information about the Sutherland Institute. Have these ultra-conservatives hijacked the Mormon Church and are they a part of a bigger network of anti-gay establishments.

Sorry to hear you’re down with the flu (and sorry to hear that Timothy isn’t doing well either). Been years since I’ve had it but I well remember what a miserable experience it was.

You should get plenty of rest, drink lots of liquids, and whine to your heart’s content — whatever it takes to get well.
