Not only was VCB filled with inane conversation, there was also an inane voiceover. I’ve enjoyed Woody Allen in the past, but this movie was pointless. Not even any good jokes.

I found Vicky Christina Barcelona to be a piffle of a movie. Nice Spanish locations, however.

I found many things to admire about Brokeback, but the first sex scene was totally absurd. It’s unbelievable that the first sexual experience for 2 repressed gay guys would be having 30 seconds of anal intercourse with no lube and no foreplay. This played like some silly gay porn rape fantasy. No surprise that a straight woman originally wrote the scene.

Perhaps you’re right. The Academy certainly appreciated Cruz’ work.

It’s not that I insist on non-stop action, but I tend to find Woody Allen’s conversation-based movies to be either neurotic or inane. I start to feel like I’ve been seated at dinner with a very boring but talkative stranger who tells me the details of their uninteresting life.

It is too bad you turned off “Vicky Christina Barcelona” after only 20 minutes. I realize there is not non-stop action which is the demise of many a great movie. If you had watched the whole movie, you might have appreciated it. Bardem and Cruz were outstanding.

I wanted to like Brokeback, but I thought it a poor film. Perhaps you’re right, but Crash was far better in my tear soaked eyes. I thought Milk was better, but not the best. Penn’s performance would be a worthy win in my eyes, but that’s it. But the awards are as much politics and favorites as quality.
