occono: Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm still a bit of a Debbie Downer after the whole California debacle.

AJD, they can't "swoop in" in Iowa till 2012 (though admittedly even by then they still might not relax, but it's not happening anytime soon) and Vermont definitely is not going to have an Amendment, it's much more Liberal then California as a whole (A Republican is Governor because the Liberal vote gets split three ways)

What a shame that trogs like Douglas want to be on the wrong side of history, like Bull Connor, et al.

Not exactly leaving a name and legacy of honor.

Paul: I don't blame you at all.

You know that the religious right will swoop in to Vermont and Iowa with their marriage amendments.

I don't think this country will be on the level of Canada in this regard for at least 20 years.

My spouse and I are not even bothering with the USA. We decided to go to Canada. Since OHIO, our home state won't recognize it anyway. When the FEDERAL laws get it together then it will make a difference. Until then we are doing it legally with IRONCLAD documents covering all our asses 3 different ways,us and the kids.

Frankly I'd almost prefer a Republican bigot to veto the bill. Assuming said veto would generate sympathy within the state house for seeking a veto-proof majority vote. That would be a far better position for gays to make their case that same-sex marriage IS the 'will of the People'. At least in Vermont.

Vermont’s House of Representatives gay preliminary approval to a bill giving same-sex couples the right to marry.

Typo or Freudian slip?

A number of representives who voted against said they would vote for the Veto, as Jim Douglas did a big no-no in saying he would veto it before it passed.

It would be a shame if this is lost because of only needing three more votes to avoid a veto!!!! I hope the Gov changes his mind.
