It would be funny if it weren't so darn
tragic. What I see is 100s of thousands
of real scared kids. The side in support
of the California Supreme Court decision
allowing gay and lesbian partnerships
to be legalized didn't get into the
arguing in front of the kiddies much.

A damnably messy kettle of lumpy
mush--Utah's national breakfast
dish, or was. Maybe we should have
a law declaring lumpy mush our
national dish. That's how they
do in Utah, or try.

Its illegal for a man to walk down
the street between two women in
Cedar City, Utah. My mother told me
that as an example of silly laws
that nobody gets around to changing.
I was seven, maybe and she explained
it all to me. And I agreed.

50 years later I not only think it
dumb, but dangerous. Life, liberty,
and the pursuit of happiness, mmmmm, where's that from.

Who would it hurt if Polygamy were
decriminalized? It was legal for 20
years (see the Smith Act). It was
common until Justinian took up
Christianity and remolded the faith
in his own image. That hardly happened
5,000 years ago. Gimmie a break Rev.

fannie,

You may be joking a bit, but I wouldn't doubt it.

In Warren's mind he is the moderate loving face of Evangelical Christianity. Anything that doesn't fit with that image will fade from his recollection.

He's already forgotten his video and his comparisons to pedophilia and incest. And I really do think that in some ways he truly has forgotten - it isn't how he thinks of himself so it just MUST have been some anomoly and not really that big a deal.

As Christianity in whole comes to embrace its gay children (which is going to happen), Warren will recall that he worked with some gay people on AIDS and that his church was "always open to everyone" and he'll forget he ever said that the Bible opposed gay couples.

I do think it's very likely that Warren will recall himself as a leader in supporting gays. Many current anti-gays will.

Have you ever met anyone who recalls supporting miscegenation laws? Or anyone who opposed racial equality?

Votes and polls say they did, and in great number. But no one ever seems to recall that they were among those who did.

Just wait until 50 years from now when no one will want to admit to being associated with the "marriage defense" movement. Maybe by then Warren will have re-write history as him being on the vanguard of the LGBT rights movement!

The theological purists aren't going care at all that he lied on Larry King's show. But they will try to punish him for now distancing himself from Prop 8.

I guess you must be reminded that for so many anti-gay religionists, it's not a lie if told in the service of The Fountain of Truth.

In the immortal recitation of St. Humpty Dumpty:

"Words mean exactly what I say they mean. Nothing more. And nothing less."
