A poll in July found 49% supportive with 37% opposed. Since that time there has been considerable discussion of marriage equality in all of Rhode Island’s neighbors and it is not at all unlikely that there has been some shift in thinking.

Interestingly, the opposition number is only 6% from the July 08 poll and the increase in support for marriage appears to have been predominantly from the “undecideds”.

Of course as with all polls, exact numbers are elusive. However, it’s fair to say that far more voters of Rhode Island favor marriage equality than oppose it. And it would appear that the trend is in our direction.

Short rule of thumb on gay marriage polling: solid support tends to run about 10% behind the national Democratic vote percentage.

Obama/Biden got 63% of the RI vote last November.
