It is very important to note that this is a bipartisan vote:

Ten Democrats and four Republicans voted to override the veto, while two Democrats and five Republicans voted against it.

One of the best things that could happen to our community would be if Republican legislators rejected the notion that they must automatically oppose gay rights.

And I am overjoyed that in many of the states that have recently expanded the notion of community and family to include gay citizens that these votes have included elected Republicans. If this trend continues, it will be but a short time until self-identified "conservatives" and Republicans will feel free to embrace civil equality without feeling as though they will be rejected by those who share their fiscal or foreign policy views.

Per the Las Vegas Review Journal

Some supporters had hoped for a Saturday night vote in the Assembly. But Assemblyman James Ohrenschall became ill earlier in the day and was briefly hospitalized.

Ohrenschall, D-Las Vegas, supported SB283 in the first Assembly vote. He is expected to return to the Legislature today.

So it's possible we'll know the fate of this bill today.

Wow now that I didn't expect...2 Republicans. I know that Gibbons is quite unpopular in Nevada and figured some Democrats might've resented his veto, but I don't really know the makeup of the chambers. I guess we'll see if something similar can happen in their House.
