Thanks to Mr. Kameny and Barbara Gittings and the rest who really had the balls to take a stand way back when it was dangerous to come out as a gay person, we’ve got as far as we have today.

We owe them a debt of gratitude to not only continue on with the fight for equality but also in taking care of our senior LGBT community so that they’re are not shunned or pushed back into a life of silence. They matter to all of us.

This is the reason I celebrate gay pride: to honor all those who have come before me and to all those who will come after.

Thank goodness he was still alive for this apology and to witness the progress so far. Hopefully we wont have to push as hard another 40 years from now..

Not long after I came out (in DC) in 1994, the LGBT (though predominantly just “G”) discussion group I attended hosted Frank who gave a really great historical perspective on the emergence of “Gay Rights” and his personal involvement. It was inspiring then and I am so happy for him that he received (finally) a formal apology.

He is a great man and a great part of our history/struggle. I wish more people knew his story.

I’m very glad for Mr. Kameny. He is a brave man. He stood up when standing up could end you in jail, or even in prison.

BUT I think this is just another crumb brushed over to the glbt community to try to avoid actually doing something of substance for us.

What an accomplishment. It appears from the included photo that the event may have had to be transferred from a conference room to a larger capacity auditorium. This was an event long overdue.

Its things like this that give me hope and brighten my day. It small but the movement is growing and changes are happening.
