I remember my friend’s mother, a big old Baptist, when I told her my father was ill. She said, “Has he been saved!?”.

I told her my father was ill. Was she there to help me care for him? No. I don’t know what she wanted.

I hear their membership is dropping. I wonder why. Is is because they’re perceived as intolerant assh*les?

Alex, assuming that comment was not facetious, legitimate criticism of a religious organization is not bashing religion. The fact that many people of faith take the attitude that it is, however, has undermined attempts to engage in constructive debate and discussion.
