Those interested in reinvesting in this old thread can ready dismiss Lively's "references", "historical documents" and every (keep a straight face now) "historical witnesses" by checking out Warren Throckmorton's multi-part series.

For Doug and the others who are unfamiliar, Throckmorton is a conservative evangelical Christian professor who happens to have an interest in pursuing truth within Christian circles on the subject of sexual orientation. I don't always agree with Warren, but he's honest.

Also, in the mid 90's, a group starting tracking down and reading Lively's "sources". The result is amusing.

"It is obvious not one of the condemning posters have read The Pink Swastika. To dismiss it is to dismiss every reference, every historical document and every historical witness. That is blatant ignorance and academic dishonesty. One can dsisagree with some sources or parts of his premise, but an honest student can’t dismiss many of his conclusions. Because one is unhappy with history doesn’t make it dissappear."

If your gonna troll with bigoted BS why go into a thread that's a year old?

That pamphlet still occasionally appears in the more intellectually handicapped sections of the blogosphere. It's all the rage with anti-gay wingnuts ranging from angry young Christian men to armchair intellectuals with a Freudian-Marxist bent. One thing I've come to learn is there is nothing easier than to read "homosexuality" into any political movement you want to oppose, or to read the defining characteristics of those movements into homosexuality.

No, Nazism was a gay plot. Sneaky of them trying to throw the world off the scent by publicly condemning homosexuality, stripping gays of jobs and rights, shipping them to concentration camps and murdering them in carload lots. Clever clever National Socialists, you would have had us all fooled if it weren't for that meddling Scott Lively and his crazy dog. Jinkies!

"I have completed 20 years of service".... "through this long tour of duty"

I find it really despicable that, when describing his anti-gay activities, he uses terminology that is typically reserved for those who make huge sacrifices for our nation- like members of the armed services. I'm not a big fan of militarism, but I think it does a real disservice to our men and women in uniform when people like Lively misappropriate a phrase like "tour of duty" and apply it to their hate work.
