Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Announced Her Resignation — 23 Days from Now

Gov. Sarah Palin (Shawn Wilson/KTUU-DT)

She gave no reason as far as I could tell from her long, rambling speech — unless it had something to do with Seward’s Folly and Alaska being the air transport crossroads of the world. Her resignation doesn’t take effect until July 26. Something tells me that in the unpredictable realm of Palin-land, just about anything can and might happen in the next twenty-three days.

The possibility of her concentrating on a presidential campaign was raised by the Associated Press, but her term ends in 2010. That’s plenty of time to run for 2012, even by today’s standards of endless campaigns. (Obama, Clinton, and McCain all remained senators while they ran, after all.) Do you think anyone, even a conservative Republican, would vote for anyone this impulsive and irresponsible? I’m curious as to what’s going on, and probably I’m far from the only one.

I’m wondering whether a new scandal is about to break and the Snowbilly knows the evidence against her is factual and damning, therefore she’s quitting before she gets forced out. Even if that’s not the case, I fail to see how abandoning one’s elected post paints her in a positive light as a candidate for POTUS. Well, actually she’s been negligent (at best)in her duties as Gov. already. Now she’s just formalizing it.

Oh she’s running, alright. Running from something, and fast.

Well, here’s one clue from your feed. Just below your article a Google advertisement popped up asking to:

SUPPORT SARAHPAC
THE OFFICIAL SARAH PALIN PAC

What kind of political advisor tells someone in her position to quit being a governor, to give up the duty she promised to fullfil. I suppose if she should become president she’ll resign when it gets tough going also.

What network is her talk-show going to be on?

A Palin pulling out early? Preposterous!

At the risk of being totally wrong, I offer a second opinion.

As of now, she’s simply resigning. While that deserves attention, it doesn’t deserve insult. While the other commenters here may be right that her move is an intentional move to sidestep some kind of embarresment, I war otherwise.

What if, God forbid, something tragic is happening? Again, I realize that recent trends in the party point otherwise, but without any information to go on we run the risk of being douches.

How much would it suck if you’re making fun of someone who’s stepping down due to a terminal illness? Or family issues?

ok, I’m off my soapbox.

It could be something with her kid. Who knows?

I think she’s taken a little too much crap since the election. She deserves the criticism (and investigation), but not the cheap shots.

Makes sense that she’s officially resigning. She’s spent more time on the speaking and talk show circuit since the election than she actually has governing.

For better or worse, she’s a political celebrity. I guess she decided to get an early start on running for 2012.

What if she took another job? Perhaps, with a christian organization?

And during that process, she figured out (perhaps with the help of some RNC operative) that she can make a lot more money delivering carefully prepared speeches to her “base”, enriching and potentially creating opportunities for herself and fellow wingers.

Individuals like Palin are sock-puppets. To understand all of this will require discovering the identity of the puppet master that operates her mouth and following the money.

Did I miss something, I must not be reading the right news sources because I’ve seen very little of her. There was the David Letterman murmur last month, but that’s about it. But I saw on Freeperland and she even mentions in her speech her how people are going after her family.

Now, I’ve seen her on the cover of the enquirer and other supermarket tabloids…but that’s hardly something to quit your job over. Did I miss something? I’m being sincere, because I’m just not seeing the endless potshots against her and her family that people say have been happening “daily” since November. I’m fairly sure I’m tapped into the liberal media enough that surely, surely, I’d have see something. But the only stories I recall since the election is the divorce(or just cancelled wedding) of her daughter, and the Letterman snafu.

Maybe she’s resigning because she cheated on her husband with a handsome Log Cabin Republican.

Something smells bad here. If it’s the big bad media that has led her to resign then how could she possibly handle being President, where your every word is scrutinized and criticized?

If it’s to focus on a 2012 campaign then the worst thing she could do is resign during her tenure. People will question whether she can stick out a 4-8 year Presidential term.

If there is a medical issue in her family, well, she isn’t above using them as props, so why wasn’t it mentioned?

I think something ugly is about to surface.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International.
