Richard: Oh yeah, I remember that. Donnelly came across as a complete...well, imbecile let's say. Good times. :-)

There's an old Vulcan proverb, only Nixon can go to China. Rep. Murphy is our Nixon for this fight. Good man.

Well, how many is it going to take?! Most of the American public supports open service. The hearing proved how many service members already know their colleagues are gay and don't care. The coalition forces from Britain and so on have had openly gay service members for years, and gay and lesbian soldiers live and work in these close environments and don't validate the impetus for the policy in the first place.

Isn't all this proven to be way past academic as it is?

All this and STILL the tippy toe around an all out repeal?

So just WHAT will it take? How many speaking against DADT will it take?

And a YouTube clip of Murphy at the hearing:

Hopes this gives added confidence for all to the ability of Murphy to usher the repeal of DADT

@John: Have no fears about Patrick Murphy!! He was one of the most outspoken members of the committee that held hearings on DADT last summer. During the testimony by Elaine Donnelly of the Center for Military Readiness, he used every word he could think of that came just short of calling her an arrogant, ignorant, pompous homophobe. I watched it on C-SPAN. It was one of the rare times I have actually stood up and cheered a politician during a newscast. Here's a link to the BTB account, July 24 '08:

I do not know much about Murphy, but given his backround I find this to be encouraging. I've always thought that this issue was best left up to gay vets and their allies to push forward instead of civilian activists. Perhaps this is why I prefer groups like Servicemembers United over SLDN.

Now here is a "fierce advocate"! He makes a very important point in why the POTUS has proceeded in the fashion he has: the law was enacted by Congress, it is by the authority of Congress that it must be repealed. Dismissing or suspending the law would put Obama in the same category as Bush with his signing statements. Thanks for posting the video.
