Actually I think Richard's got to lie because he's shown himself to be incapable of sticking to the truth. When his lies are pointed out to him he simply moves on to another target.

Richard's got to lie about what went on because the reality of the situation doesn't justify bigotry such as his.

"...but some guys who couldn’t keep their tongues out of each other’s mouths in public got asked to calm down..."

Richard,

New reports state that the kiss in question was a quick peck on the lips. It is your own animus and personal demons that drive you to distort the facts.

Those Yelp reviews are brilliant! And it doesn't seem to be a coordinated campaign, either. It's just lots of concerned people saying what they feel.

Right, a bunch of Internet political crusaders, almost none of whom is even in Texas, who've never been to the place and are unlikely to ever even be in the neighborhood giving it a 1 is going to affect business. I bet they're REALLY worried about their yelp rating. I'd guess the vast bulk of the people who would likely eat there don't even know what yelp is and don't care--I didn't and don't.

This is some form of 'activism'--post a negative review to an Internet site b/c some place doesn't meet your political standards.

And you want to compare this to the lunch counter boycotts? Wow.

There, people were being systematically disallowed to patronize establishments b/c of their skin color, and the lunch counter sitters actually risked their lives to oppose this.

Here, nobody was being denied service for anything that wasn't completely under their control--but some guys who couldn't keep their tongues out of each other's mouths in public got asked to calm down, refused to do so and angrily confronted the staff, and got tossed, then some courageous souls posted negative reviews to yelp to show their commitment to the cause.

Really? You think THOSE two things are comparable?

The kerfuffle over El Coyote here in Los Angeles was astonishing in how many out of staters got wind of it and distorted the whole situation.

Why they think it's okay for a restaurant owner to PROFOUNDLY betray her customer base (that helped her family prosper) and there be no consequences escapes me.
And if something similar happens to El Chico, so be it.
That the police were even involved is exactly why the prejudice against gay people is wasteful and irrational.

As I said in another post, the police themselves don't usually appreciate being called out for something so frivolous. El Paso has it's share of gang members, just like Los Angeles.

That the police involved themselves in this incident to this degree should embarrass them regarding their priorities and discretion with which encounters to let get to this degree.
Police are there also to COOL a situation, not fuel the agitation.

Does El Chico now feel it was worth it to be such a-holes about a non issue?
Some people make their own messes, but of course, it's easier to 'blame the gays' for it.

Wow...this has implications similar to that of the lunch counter boycotts of the civil rights era.
Only instead of 'no blacks served', the attitude is 'no affectionate men served', except without the signs that say so.
