Yeah.. Ironically, I’d say I hate Perez Hilton, not Carrie Prejean.

I had no problem with what she said in the actual contest (though it was dumb), it was the pity parade she went on full of ridiculous conspiracy theories and ultimately a revelation of her true feelings that really brought my disfavor upon her.

Carrie Prejean’s comments in Rex Wockner’s interview are what truly stung me. She say’s she “has a lot of friends that are gay.” Then she claims that homosexuality “is a behavior that develops over time.” Just who are these gay friends? Are they the same people who are friends with Joe the Plumber, who won’t let gays near his children?

Congrats on her book deal. But the chances of my reading her book are as slim as the chances of my reading a memoir by Perez Hilton.

You are mistaken. Carrie Prejean has alligned herself publicly with the goals and agenda of National Organization for Marriage. NOM exists solely to seek to limit the civil rights of others.

And I think you misunderstand the response to Prejean. Here at BTB we directed no hatred in her direction.

We did, however, illuminate her hypocrisy and that of those who lept to see her as a martyr. We pointed out that if one wants to join a public relations campaign to insist that I live according to your sexual standard, then perhaps you should be certain that you do so first.

We were perhaps uncharitable at time in regard to what one can deduce about her intellect based on her public statements. We were perhaps a bit mocking. But we don’t hate Carrie; we pity her.

But, nonetheless, enjoy the book.

Dan, you haven’t been paying attention. Miss Prejean let herself be the spokesface for National Organization for Marriage, and has traveled shotgun with Maggie Gallagher, most definitely a group who is politically active in taking away marriage equality for gay folks.

Once Miss. P chose who she would speak for, and it WASN’T the Miss CA organization, then you are mistaken that she’s not part of another agenda other than her own.

I can’t imagine there’s any truth to that. I’ve never heard her state that she supports the right of gays to marry, she’s consistently aligned herself with groups that attack equal marriage and supported their efforts to do so, and I sincerely doubt she voted against prop 8 which would mean she most certainly did seek to limit the civil rights of others.

Dan, perhaps you should look closely at some of Ms. Prejean’s statements. Based on several things she’s said, her position regarding same-sex marriage doesn’t seem to be a “sincerely held personal belief” so much as a poorly phrased response to a question she didn’t understand. Since then she’s been working for an organization that actively opposes same-sex marriage. If she’s not seeking to limit the civil rights of others, why is she the poster child for an organization that wants to do just that?

And, frankly, I’m tired of being accused of making someone “the focus of such hatred” simply by criticizing their opinions. Ms. Prejean has a right to her beliefs, but that right doesn’t protect her from criticism. I don’t hate her, nor have I seen much hatred of her expressed here. Most of the comments are critical of her beliefs, not Carrie Prejean personally.

I think she should have gone with a pop-up book or maybe large-format coloring pages. It would be less intellectually taxing for her to write that way, and have the added benefit of appealing to more of the people that think anything she says actually matters.

I’ll definitely be buying Carrie’s book.

One thing that’s been lost in the furore over her comments at Miss USA is that while she personally is opposed to same-sex marriage, she doesn’t seek to limit the civil rights of others.

I think that all of us are against some form of activity that other people participate it, but don’t necessarily seek to prohibit them from doing it.

It’s a shame that someone can be the focus of such hatred simply for voicing a sincerely held personal belief.

Exactly as predicted on several occasions in these very pages, Miss C.P. cashes in on her fraud-reign as now Ex-Miss California, which should surprise no one.

How long before she achieves the status of first-class Religious-Right-Shill? I guess that depends on how well the book does with that audience, so we will just have to wait and see.

If, in the unlikely event that curiosity gets the better of anyone reading here, they could still wait to get it when it’s on the bargain table about 6 months after publication. I can hardly wait for the Amazon reviews, I bet they will be a hoot.
