The fact these arrests have occurred, that another man is now facing prosecution, and the legal and social conditions within Senegal permit all this, constitute yet another reminder that a large segment of society, both in the U.S. and abroad, still regards gay men and women as seocnd-class citizens - or worse. That is the salient point of my recently released biographical novel, Broken Saint. It is based on my forty-year friendship with a gay man, and chronicles his internal and external struggles as he battles for acceptance (of himself and by others). More information on the book is available at www.eloquentbooks.com/BrokenSaint.html.

The arrest of this unfortunate young man is a crime against God and humankind.

There are people who are so devoid of humanity that they are in essence the incarnation of pure evil. Religion is merely habitual or robotic for them. It is just another idealism for them to exploit, just another manipulative tool for them to attain and hold power, just another front for them to use to attack people. If it weren't religion, it would be something else, like a political ideology or a materialist philosophy. Same crap, different flies.

I hope and pray that there is also an international outcry against this as well.
