chgolcmt,

No, I haven't lived with it. My "t-daughter" does, though. My friend Kurt lives with it, as well. And I've lost a few people to it, as well.

I agree, it is about the stigma and phobia surrounding the statistics -- I was pointing out some other elements of those statistics.

As for complaining that their group wasn't included, again, the points of both my an Emily's posts was that the stigma is readily broken by pointing out those same flaws in the use of the statistics.

Indeed, the same can be said for Burr's commentary.

So understand that everyone here, thus far, has been, in fact, quite supportive of the very issue you accuse them of not being as concerned with.

I don't know if the people leaving comments here live with HIV, but if they are like myself and have actually been in this game as many years as I have, they would have stuck with the point of the article and applauded the it instead of complaining about their group being excluded.

This is about HIV phobia and stigma. Thoughts are things and you have to be careful about them. Timothy is right. The promotion of statistics that are misleading and incomplete are counterproductive stopping the spread of HIV.

Well done Timothy, I couldn't agree more with what you've said, and I appreciate your insight.

Just a couple of comments:

1 - Remember that the *lowest* rate of transmission is found among gay women.

2 - Remember that transsexuals (including post operative ones) are usually counted in the MSM category.

There's also the fact that not all MSM are gay. Those stats include prostitutes and straight men who get raped in prison.

I wish the raw statistics were more prominently featured over mere X times pronouncements. Not only does it foster disbelief, but it also feeds into irresponsible behavior with the attitude of "Well I'm gonna get it anyway, might as well get it out of the way.."

And how exactly do Lesbians like me factor into the equation? Because whenever "gay" is mentioned it seems that gay and bi WOMEN are never ever addressed.

Of course, the CDC has declared that there has never been a recorded case of Female to Female HIV transmission from women who are and always have been exclusively WSW.
