Ben, I meant that the IMPLEMENTATION of DOMA makes it harder for local government to act. The "it" in my statements is "DOMA." You mis-read what I wrote.

Emily K, how would it make it harder for local government to serve if DoMA were repealed? Right now it makes it harder, because states like Mass are not able to grant the rights that they have voted to give.

Sounds to me like code for, "it makes it harder for Christians to persecute gay people" wrapped in shiny weasel-words.

Because of DOMA, I could not sponsor my spouse when we moved to Germany. I am a federal govt employee and I am treated as a single person with none of the benefits that my other married co-workers enjoy. Yesterday, the German Govt was kind enough to recognize our marriage and granted my spouse a residence visa so that we can stay together. When I asked the American Govt to allow me to sponsor my spouse, they cited DOMA and showed me the door. Thank you Germany for having the compassion to allow me to sponsor my spouse so that we may remain together while I am working in your country.

It impinges on State rights. It makes the local government harder to serve its local people. No conservative serious about such matters would argue it does anything else.

They say it here, too, Lindoro. In fact, that was exactly my reaction, without the asterisks!

Thank you, Representative Nadler.

If Nancy Pelosi is unwilling to allow this to come to a vote, I hope the good people across the Bay from me vote her out of office.
