Queens Man Brutally Beaten in Anti-Gay Attack

Jim Burroway

Jack PriceVideo was released yesterday showing a gay Queens man being brutally beaten by two men last week. Jack Price, 49, was harassed and assaulted early Friday morning as he was leaving a deli. The attack was was captured on video, as Price was subjected to anti-gay epithets and beaten to the ground. He was left with a broken jaw, fractured ribs and a lacerated spleen. He is in a medically-induced coma on a respirator.

The two attackers have been arrested. They are Daniel Aleman, 26, and Daniel Rodriguez, 21. Aleman, who was arrested over the weekend, has been charged with assault and aggravated assault as a hate crime. Rodriguez, who was arrested today in Norfolk, VA, has charges pending his extradition to New York.

“self defense”. They beat the crap out of a guy, 2 on 1, then come back and punch him in the face while he’s laying down just for kicks. Their claiming self-defense for this.
The pathetic thing is here in Texas you’d actually have a decent chance of the jury pretending to believe that. And you just know any day now the bigots *and their multimillion budget organizations* will be defending these two and going on about how you can’t prove it was a hate crime, demanding whatever evidence they know you don’t have. They’ll say we need audio to prove it was a hate crime, if it were an audio recording they’d say we can’t see the fight so its not proven.

The NY Times said they don’t know when Rodriguez would be extradited. I wonder if his attorneys might argue in a Virginia court against the idea of a hate crime in New York?

Penguinsaur, in Texas, he’d have had the right to pull out a concealed gun and shoot them dead just based on the fear of being assaulted.

Lynn, I’m about 99% certain that the state of Virginia will not be able to trump NY’s laws on hate crimes — they don’t get the right to nullify laws in another state. If the paperwork is in order, and there is sufficient evidence presented, I can’t imagine why extradition would be contested.

21 and 26 are not “youths”. They are adults who I hope will face the maximum penalty allowed. Not familiar with Queens DA–I know Brooklyn and Manhattan DAs would prosecute like hell.

Over at TH author Sullum has written another article that complains about hate crimes legislation. He was wrong on one significant point: he says that there is no evidence that state officials have let anti gay criminals get away with murder.

We only have to look at the case of Sean Kennedy’s murder and know that is patently untrue.
Furthermore, the kinds of comments that the anti gay articles generate tells you it would be VERY difficult, if not impossible to trust these potential jurors.

I haven’t watched this video, and in the SID unit I work in, we photograph victims like this all the time.

There is something to be said about the libelous nature of religious based anti gay speech.
Not all speech can, nor is protected. Many in this country forget the consequences of such anti gay rhetoric. Especially that posits gay people as dangerous or worthless to society.

To the extent that perpetrators commit their crimes thinking they won’t be punished nor have to care about the consequences of THEIR actions.

Do those who constantly and continually promote anti gay speech think there is no liability in doing so?
Here you have a man who will likely have to go on public disability.
You have to young adults who should be incarcerated for the rest of their lives.
All of which costs society MILLIONS of dollars in lost productivity for all involved.
Victim vs. perps.
No winners.

And the Tony Perkins and James Dobsons and Gary Bauers and so on out there, are just as happy to let these would be killers rot in jail for THEIR cause.
Name ANY identified hate groups out there and historically they ALL would publicly denounce violence, but silently and tacitly approve of it’s results.
What is the liability of their political and legal push against gay people?
Wasted potential. When gay people were routinely institutionalized or incarcerated, the calculus of how much such public, tax payer supported isolation wasn’t counted.

Now the calculus of dependency on welfare, or other assistance from loss of property, ss pensions and life partners who were financial support isn’t measured either.

The man in this hospital bed came within an inch of losing his life.
But WE as a society lose so much more in the process of his recovery and the jailing of his would be killers.

There are NO WINNERS in the war on gay people. And in the final analysis of the costs to society, to innocence, to public safety and financial security, how do the anti gay or how can they, possibly think this is good enough to continue the anti gay rhetoric?

Being so anti gay as to make it a religion unto itself seems more at play here to me.
And we should demand the reason why.

How do you know the attackers aren’t atheists who reject everything about religion?

If they were atheists and reject “everything about religion”, then wouldn’t they reject that gays are an abomination unto the lord?

As far as I know, atheists have no beef with members of the LGBT community.

Who preaches more anti-gay hate? Atheists or theists?

Latest proof that these two gay bashers were most likely NOT atheists:

A friend of suspected gay basher Daniel Rodriguez who proudly displays his Leviticus tattoo says the attack on Jack Price wasn’t an anti-gay hate crime and was justified because, he claims, Price hit on his attackers before the “beatdown” that sent Price to the hospital with a fractured jaw, rib fractures and a lacerated spleen.

Yeah a gay guy is gonna hit on a guy with a huge obvious Leviticus tattoo. Riiight.

The Leviticus tattoo for the homo-bigot friend of soon to be convicted gay basher reads:

Thou shalt not be with a male as one does with a woman. It is an abomination. Leviticus 18:22

Again, how could anyone determine that these scumbags are “atheists”?

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
