I grew up Catholic under apartheid South Africa, and learned my Catholicism as an activist for Justice % Peace. It is sad that these days I have to turn my fundamental Catholic principles against the institutional church: but the fact is that the official position is not based on Scripture, true tradition, or "natural law" as they claim. Research shows that ordinary Catholics do not share the Church view on homosexuality, or any other sexual matter. This story shows that sense can prevail over the hotheads. This is what Catholicism is all about, and what keeps me in the Church: sensitivity to outcasts and injustice, and the importance of fighting it.
