My best friend is Portuguese, liberal, Theravadan, and yet she's not comfortable with the idea. It seems to me that if she has trouble getting her head round it, what's the chances of mainstream Portuguese voters supporting it? Yet they voted in a party that had marriage equality as a key part of it's manifesto. The frustrating thing for me is that support for marriage equality is WAY higher in the UK than in Portugal, at around 61%, and yet we're unlikely to see any moves here for at least a decade.
