"We’re not trying to reinforce Africans to think like Nixon or Reagan or to promote fiscal conservatism over there."

John Perkins (aka former Economic Hit Man) might beg to differ. It says something to me that one of the faux "Nigerian" bishops in Akinola's US denomination--Martyn Minns--is a former Mobil Oil exec.

Any Native American can tell you that when the white men came, they had the Bible and Natives had the resources. Then the white men said "let us pray" and when the Natives opened their eyes, they had the Bible and the white men had the resources. African Christians, take note.

Salvatore Ippolito has made it quite clear where the church should stand on this matter. Kill the gays. Is that a correct summation?

I'd like to add that American political polarization and cultural warfare can not be transplanted outside of its context--that's common sense. Further, we should all support human rights. But no one should be made to believe that Christianity is anything other than what it is. And the tenor of Scripture has always been in favor of heterosexual marriage and against homosexuality. The same of course goes for Judaism.

It's obvious that the presiding bishop falls outside of apostolic Christianity. Her failure to recognize and uphold Christian morality is normal for the times, I'm afraid. I do want to make clear that there is a culture war peculiar to American society and politics. But that's not what's being transplanted. We're not trying to reinforce Africans to think like Nixon or Reagan or to promote fiscal conservatism over there. Get real Mrs. Shori. Conservative Anglicans around the world universally adhere to apostolic Christianity--you know, the kind that actually pays attention to the Bible. And no Mrs. Shori, we don't confuse sexual expression with cultural freedom. Retroactive hippies do.

It is quite accurate to state that the Presiding Bishop has little expectation of any major impact on the movement of this bill. When the Anglican Communion met in Tanzania last year, the African prelates who have the most potential of influence in this matter, summarily snubbed her; firstly, because she is a woman in a "position of authority only deserving to men" and secondly because she is the representative of a Province which has welcomed the consecration of a gay-partnered man to the office of bishop. There were some, Peter Akinola among other, who went so far as to refuse to receive the Eucharistic elements when she was the celebrant.
