Rich,

If I understand the relationship between DC and the Congress correctly, no they cannot strike down the law at their whim.

Congress does not pass administrative laws for DC. What they can do, however, is try to control DC's policy and statutes by funding. They can deny funding for programs that do not meet their wishes.

As marriage does not appear to be supplemented by federal tax dollars, I suspect that Congress will have no way to change the city's laws once the 30 day veto period has passed.

(I welcome correction by any DC attorneys with knowledge about the relationship)

I think it unlikely that the current Congress will overturn the DC marriage equality law. My question is, what about when the GOP takes over again (and they surely will with the screw-ups being made by the Dems!)? Can they come back at a later time and strike the law down at their whim?

Why do converts to Mormonism find the need to go way overboard in proving their conservatism? Plus, his antics seem to indicate he is a media-hound…do we need to remind people of his appearance on The Colbert Report. The sleeping on a cot in his D.C. office is a stunt for publicity…which shouldn't surprise us...his job is in communications and marketing. He sure has made a name for himself.

If an outsider like Mr. Chaffetz is the kind of Representative the people in happy Utah Valley want…so be it.
