Sorry to be off topic again, but Hinduism is not a homophobic religion per se. Most Hindus who reject homosexuality do so not because of anything written in any of Hindu's religious texts - rather they use other arguments.

Anyways, that is not to claim that Hinduism is a better religion or anything! Hindu fundamentalists are just as dangerous as Muslim or Christian fundamentalists. However, I just wanted to get the facts through.

99.9% of all the anti-gay atheists or non-religious that I know or heard of are also either racialists, Stalinists/Maoists or both.

We've had our fun, but "snowisfun" posted an obvious off-topic comment and now all the remaining topics are also off-topic. He did this for one reason only, and that's to stir up trouble.

"snowisfun" is henceforth banned from commenting on BTB.

Any further comments which are off-topic will be deleted.

Okay, Priya Lynn, I admit that my hostility towards homosexuals over the years has been based on bad experiences with them in the workplace, which is why in 2005, I changed my views on homosexuality & have decided since then that it's best to find a cure for it, though they say it's not a disease.

But why does it offend you if a cure for homosexuality were found? Why does it offend you if sex changes were to disappear & a cure for GID were found? You keep saying happiness this but how can some1 be unhappy if something no longer existed ? Again, many people wouldn't care 1 way or the other if lefthandedness were cured, but why the offense over whether a cure for homosexuality & GID are found? I don't understand the controversy.

"snowisfun" said "When I’ve talked to Hindus who support homosexual rights, they’ve told me that Hinduism has no prohibition against homosexuality".

Similarly many Christians say christianity doesn't prohibit loving gay relationships. That doesn't change the fact that many, if not most Christians and hindus say their religion is against it.

"snowisfun" said "As far as why I would support a cure for homosexuality, well I’ve thought about it & I see something wrong with men having sex with men & women having sex with women whatever the causes.".

You keep saying that but you never state any rational reason why there is something wrong with same sex sex. That's where you're not credible when you claim it isn't motivated by religon - you claim to have other reasons but you find them so feeble (or none-existant) that you're not willing to say what they are.

"snowisfun" said "If the only sexual behavior left in the world is between a man & a woman, then I really don’t see why I should lose sleep over it.".

Would it bother you if some people felt it was a great loss to them if the things you “wouldn’t lose sleep over” disappeared? Do you have any concern over anyone’s happiness beyond your own?
Are you such a sociopath that no one's happiness other than your own matters to you?

When I've talked to Hindus who support homosexual rights, they've told me that Hinduism has no prohibition against homosexuality & they ask me that since I'm not Jewish nor Christian, what's my reasons for being against homosexuality? KamaSutra came from India & homosexuality is shown there. That has been my understanding of Hinduism.

Perhaps I'm wrong if indeed Hinduism does prohibit homosexuality as the Wikipedia article states & will have to look into this. I'm not an expert,(not every1 fully understands their religious faith) but if Hinduism really does forbid homosexuality as the article says, then I'll have to raise that with Hindus who've told me that Hinduism doesn't forbid it. All this time, I've justified my position against homosexuality for reasons unrelated to Hinduism, as I've believed that it doesn't forbid it.

Hinduism does justify vegetarianism. I've been a vegetarian for years (would never be a vegan) but I've been a vegetarian for reasons unrelated to Hinduism, though I know Hindus who do use Hinduism to justify their position.

Further from the link I posted:

"Deepa Mehta's 1996 film Fire, which depicts a romantic relationship between two Hindu women, was informally banned for "religious insensitivity"[5] after Hindu Nationalists attacked cinemas where it was being screened on the grounds that it denigrated Indian culture...Men who are too effeminate or transgendered to marry women are often rejected by their families and forced to join third-gender groups such as the hijra."

Snowisfun said "Hinduism (my religious upbringing-parents came from India) is neutral on homosexuality, which proves that 1 can reach conclusions as I do for reasons unrelated to religion.".

Not true - from wikipedia:

"Most modern Hindus reject homosexuality on the basis that Hindu dharma generally requires men and women to marry and produce progeny."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_topics_and_Hinduism

I knew you were a liar.

It was only recently in India that gayness was decriminalized. Like most other religions Hindus are predominantly anti-gay.

"snowisfun" said "most people incl. myself wouldn’t care if lefthandedness were cured though I would say ‘well what’s the need for a cure ?".

What's the need for a cure for gayness?

Priya Lynn, Hinduism (my religious upbringing-parents came from India) is neutral on homosexuality, which proves that 1 can reach conclusions as I do for reasons unrelated to religion. If you talk to Hindus who are against homosexuality, they won't use religious faith because not every faith shares the same thinking that Judaism, Christianity & Islam have.

Zeke Krahlin, you haven't written anything that I haven't already considered. No, homosexuality is not a disease as it was lifted by the APA in 1973. But even so, I still believe that if science finds the cure for homosexuality, then I support such a cure.

Science & medicine often gets involved in things you may not agree with. A common synonym I hear is why not then cure lefthandedness. Lefthandedness is also not a disease which I don't think needs to be cured, but most people incl. myself wouldn't care if lefthandedness were cured though I would say 'well what's the need for a cure ?', yet it doesn't raise as much controversy. Cloning is another eg. Sure I think cloning is useless waste of science, but again not so controversial.

However, what I don't understand is why people get offended by the idea if they eventually discover the cure for homosexuality? Your thoughts are again welcome, but you haven't said anything that I haven't already considered.

Ugandan ethics minister, huh. I guess he is the one who extorts money from people who are not part of the Museveni regime with threats to prosecute them for corruption. This anti-gay bill would give him another stick to use against regime opponents and others with money who aren't under Museveni's protection. I can see why he would be such a proponent of this legislation.

Wouldn't it be interesting to know how much money the "Ethics Minister" has hidden in Swiss accounts. Could it possibly be somewhere around $20 million?
