Illinois Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, Andy Martin
Martin is running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate for the state of Illinois, and he thinks he has found a winning campaign issue against his opponent:

Today, I am fighting for the facts about Mark Kirk. Illinois Republican leader Jack Roeser says there is a, “solid rumor that Kirk is a homosexual.” Roeser suggests that Kirk is part of a Republican Party homosexual club. Lake County Illinois Republican leader Ray True says Kirk has surrounded himself with homosexuals.
Mark Kirk should tell Republican voters the truth.

Martin has also issued a blistering press release which contain many more allegations against Roeser. Chicago radio WBBM reports:
In a written statement, Kirk campaign manager Eric Elk says, “The ad is not true and is demeaning to the political process. The people of Illinois deserve better.”
Martin says his ad is not about whether or not the rumors are true, but the fact that they are being discussed on the Internet. Andy Martin says Kirk must address the rumors.
Martin has run for several elected offices and lost. In 2004, he accused then Senatorial-candidate Barack Obama of being a “secret Muslim” and once appeared on Fox News’ Hannity’s America to charge the Obama had once trained to overthrow the government. He later appeared in CNN to publicly drop the Muslim allegation, and instead claimed that Obama’s father was actually a communist.

I agree that Kirk should address the rumors. He should tell Martin and the other rumor-mongers to mind their own blankity-blank business and focus on the matters of politics and government leadership.
Of course, he might want to say it much more gracefully than I’d be inclined to say it. ;)

WTF?
What is it about anti gay people that require you to answer to straw men?
Or if you’re a person who accepts gay people simply as part of the citizen landscape, you have to answer to accusations that you MUST accept pedophiles and other social reprobates as well?
Personally, I wouldn’t get so defensive about someone thinking I was gay. I’m thought of as that because of the company I keep and my acceptance and support of gay people as well.
The anti gay think they have something on you that you yourself find unacceptable to yourself when they throw that out there, as if testing just how much you REALLY do accept gay people or being thought of that way.
My usual answer to that is, I’m flattered you think so, it means I’m doing something right and gives me more credence in fighting injustice and supporting equality.
So what’s wrong with doing that?

You say that as if being homosexual is a BAD thing. Why is it a bad thing when there are factors like gangs, terrorists, embezzlers and addicts that deserve our attention. Me being gay isn’t such a big deal considering all that, now is it?
Why does it have YOUR attentions so much? Don’t you think there are more important things to discuss or deal with than what a person’s sexual orientation is?
Trust me, the anti gay seriously don’t know how to handle THOSE kinds of answers. It’s really funny to see them get just how foolish their obsessing is, and at the same time, you expose the preoccupation.
If it’s political candidates we’re talking about, the voters tend to wish somebody WOULD get off the gay thing and talk about something else.
As long as you’re put on defensive and GET defensive, they have ammo.
As soon as you give the unequivocal vibe that homosexuality doesn’t bother you, what have they got?
I only say I’m hetero to let the anti gay know I’m not on board with the bigotry and know better than they do how to get along with gay people if they are trying to win ME over to their anti gay side.
Eventually they do get very crude, reductive and vicious when I don’t.
And sometimes being called a lesbian takes a tone that’s like an epithet.
But it’s lost on me, and it’s weak to begin with.
I take it as a compliment, and almost perverse pleasure in doing so.
Nothing better than seeing the opposition invest SO much energy and money in something so petty and revealing.
