LaBarbera Award: Pat Robertson

Jim Burroway

January 13th, 2010

Pat Robertson richly deserves the LaBarbera Award for this one:

“Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French … and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, ‘We will serve you if you will get us free from the French.’ True story. So the devil said, ‘OK, it’s a deal.'”

“Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another,” Robertson said, referring to the country’s poverty.

Robertson was speaking on the Christian Broadcast Network during a drive by the network, which he founded, to raise money for disaster relief.

Usually, when we award someone with the LaBarbera Award, we post commentary explaining why the winner merits the honor. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then here’s a far more eloquent essay than I could ever hope to write:

What a disgusting human being Pat Robertson is. And he really believes this sh!t; it’s staggering.

He is also a traitor. He and Fallwell cheered the terrorists on September 11, even while rescuers were still trying to pull bodies out of the WTC and the Pentagon.

He hates America. He hates Haiti. I assume he hates Western Europe and the EU. Who doesn’t he hate, and why does anyone listen to him?

Haiti is 80% Catholic and 16% Protestant. WTF is he talking about?

Sick pathetic excuse for a “Christian.” I’m just surprised he didn’t find a way to blame me for it.

Burr, remember that in Robertson’s mind, Catholics aren’t “real” Christians.

This is about par for the course for Pat. The man is evil. He has no regard for Truth or facts. That he has not been struck dead by the God he claims to worship is an ongoing source of amazement to me.I am also quite surprised that he hadn’t earned a LaBarbera Award years ago.

While Pat has been a vile lunatic for as long as I can remember, the thing that is most revolting are the huge number of people who have made him extremely rich. It’s astonishing that so many people can listen to him, and then say to themselves, “I think Pat is correct. And since my credentials for being accepted into heaven can always use some polishing, I’m going to send him more money.”

Uhm…I’m not sure if BTB has awarded Pat Robertson before, but, if not, I am shocked it has taken this long. It is about damned time!

He is a sad, pathetic excuse for a human being.

If this is morality, may we all remain immoral for the rest of our days.

If Jesus came back Pat would be there in front leading the pack to detain him as a heretic, terrorist, threat to our way of life. Praise the lord!

Well, how does one just dial up the devil and make a deal with it?
I mean is there a hotline? Some kind of special code the devil gives to people I don’t know about?
I mean, when I’m tempted to buy yet another pair of shoes I don’t need, or eat too much dessert, does that count as the devil tapping my shoulder?
As far as I can see, the bodies lying in the street include children.

Pat points a finger and says that this is the work of God, and this generation is paying for what happened centuries ago?

He’s such an a** wipe. He and that piece of dirt, Falwell pointing fingers of blame for 9/11 was bad enough.

Guess there IS no tragedy this turd won’t exploit to point a finger, is there?

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

In this report, we explore the supposed connection between homosexuality and child sexual abuse, the conclusions reached by the most knowledgeable professionals in the field, and how anti-gay activists continue to ignore their findings. Straight From The Source: What the “Dutch Study” Really Says About Gay Couples

Anti-gay activists often cite the “Dutch Study” to claim that gay unions last only about 1½ years and that the these men have an average of eight additional partners per year outside of their steady relationship. The FRC’s Briefs Are Showing

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
