New Mardi Gras has just completed yet another mardi gras parade. One that opposed the representation of the Animal Liberation Front, because they were deemed 'not gay enough'. One that warned against Community Action Against Homophobia absorbing the 'rejects' into their float (including banners illustrating the atrocity in Uganda ) The same NMG have just recently been exposed for allowing IKEA to enter the parade in 2008 with hired straight actors. And the same NMG that supports every other apparently 'gay enough' corporations,such as ANZ banking, to march proudly & secure as generous sponsors of the parade. Sydney has lost its pride march in favour of an event which is run by corporations & endorsed my NMG, which has lost the support of the original 78'ers that got this original civil rights movement started. For those of you reading in other countries, be warned that appropriation is not necessarily the path to equality.
