Florida State Rep. Stephen Precourt (R) wants good wholesome movies and television that have family values and none of them nasty gay people. Ya know, just like the good ol’ 60’s type of television which depicted white middle-class people solving real life issues like what to do when Barney and Thelma Lou want to set Andy up on a blind date with her cousin Karen.
Precourt so longs for entertainment from the days of black and white TV that he’s willing to pay good money for it. Well, the public’s good money, that is. (Palm Beach Post)
Movies and TV shows with gay characters could be ineligible for a “family-friendly” tax credit in Florida under a little-noticed provision tucked into a $75 million incentive package that Republican House leaders hope will attract film and entertainment jobs to the state.
The bill would prohibit productions with “nontraditional family values” from receiving a so-called family-friendly tax credit. But it doesn’t define what “nontraditional family values” are, something the bill’s sponsor had a hard time doing, too.
While some folks were having trouble understanding what “nontraditional family values” means, not Charlie Crist.
“Let me define it in the positive,” said Gov. Charlie Crist, who wants lawmakers to approve a $55 million corporate income tax cut he has proposed. “A traditional family is a marriage between a man and a woman. That’s traditional.”
And if you’re still unsure, Precourt has an example
“Think of it as like Mayberry,” state Rep. Stephen Precourt, R-Orlando, said, referring to The Andy Griffith Show. “That’s when I grew up — the ’60s. That’s what life was like. I want Florida to be known for making those kinds of movies: Disney movies for kids and all that stuff. Like it used to be, you know?”
Ah, Mayberry. Opie, whistling, fishin’, traditional families… oh, wait.
Was there anyone actually married in Mayberry? Andy? Barney? Aunt Bee? Anyone?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.
When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.
In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Anti-gay activists often charge that gay men and women pose a threat to children. In this report, we explore the supposed connection between homosexuality and child sexual abuse, the conclusions reached by the most knowledgeable professionals in the field, and how anti-gay activists continue to ignore their findings. This has tremendous consequences, not just for gay men and women, but more importantly for the safety of all our children.
Anti-gay activists often cite the “Dutch Study” to claim that gay unions last only about 1½ years and that the these men have an average of eight additional partners per year outside of their steady relationship. In this report, we will take you step by step into the study to see whether the claims are true.
Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council submitted an Amicus Brief to the Maryland Court of Appeals as that court prepared to consider the issue of gay marriage. We examine just one small section of that brief to reveal the junk science and fraudulent claims of the Family “Research” Council.
The FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.

Will one of you Yanks please tell gov Crist to do some research before proclaiming on “traditional marriage”?
In most societies traditional marriage was a business arrangement between two men, a groom and a bride’s father; for the Jews of the “Old Testament”, a traditional family was headed by one man, with several wives and concubines, and also slaves; in classical Greece, Rome, Egypt and Mesopotamia, marriage between two men was possible and legal; in Melanesia, “marriage” was between a man and a woman – but only after the man had been given many virtue as a boy by forming a pederastic relationship with an older youth, from whom he acquired the manly virtues by taking in his semen, either orally or anally.
The “traditional” family as understood by Crist is a modern invention. See

Crist is another Benedict Arnold who needs to be exposed badly. It’s laughable that he of all people would be shilling for this bullcrap.

Charlie Crist is a closet case who claims that he is married while at the same tome goes out with other men on the side. For that hypocrite to say anything about marriage to a woman he should look at the farce of his own marriage.

While it has long been speculated that Crist is gay, let’s avoid making statements that we cannot prove.

Note to Hollywood: Avoid Florida, unless of course you just really want to cede final script approval to the state.

Anyway it’s patently absurd that tax breaks should be tied into any sort of speech requirements.. And to spend most of the state’s ability to cut taxes on attracting the film/TV industry is a boondoggle that won’t get us any permanent jobs. Just terrible policy all the way through.

Its kind of embarrassing to be a citizen of Florida with goofy stuff like this going on.
I can’t recall ANY black characters on the Andy Griffin show. Were there any black characters? Is life with no blacks part of the “family values” being espoused?
And there were certainly no gay or lesbian characters although there may have been a gay co-star.
For some of us Floridians, our family values include blacks and latinos and gays and lesbians and more.

I used to live in a small town in North Carolina that was quite a bit like Mayberry. The funniest thing was that I was welcomed with open arms with my current spouse and years before my former spouse. The Mormon church ladies called me “Sister Joey” at the church meetings when it came to household stuff, the men of the church were asking me how to fix their vehicles and farm equipment. Never did I get any hint of discrimination or ill will. So if that’s the kind of town they want to bring back then I’m all for it.

“That’s when I grew up — the ’60s. That’s what life was like.”
In the 1960s my evil grandmother was trying to have my sane aunt locked up in an insane asylum so she could get custody of her two cute daughters. She was also trying to get my father to divorce my mother. And she was apparently having sex with her own son. This is the wholesome, traditional value family stuff that would entertain Florida State Rep. Stephen Precourt (R).

The Palm Beach New Times ran this piece last year:
“The rumors about Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and the Green Iguana just wouldn’t go away. The story goes that the Florida governor frequented the Green Iguana, a bar in Tampa, back in the early 1990s when he was just starting his political career. He was less careful back then, people say, and during his partying at the Green Iguana, he was openly gay.
When I got Rick Calderoni, the bar’s well-known owner, on the phone, I expected him to stonewall me about it.
He didn’t.
Calderoni, who is gay, confirmed that Crist came into his bar quite often and that the two of them became friends.
Getting to the point, I asked him if he knew Crist to be gay.
“Yes,†he answered bluntly. “I just wish he would come out and admit it. That would be a great thing if he did.â€
While this doesn’t prove Crist is gay, it does prove that someone who claims to have known him well, said he is gay.

What makes me guffaw is that he really remembers that life was like a fictional television show? He must have been on drugs in the 60s.

If Crist only wants shows with a man married to a woman, Mayberry is out because Andy isn’t married to his son’s mother. Maybe they divorced, maybe she died but they’re no traditional family.
Speaking of, can anyone think of a Disney movie where the parents are married? The only one I can think of is the Lion King, but the father has many wives and his son marries his sister. And Finding Nemo, but clown fish are all transexual.

I wonder if there’s any way I can white out “Florida” on my birth certificate…
I remember as a kid watching re-runs of Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, etc. on after school TV. I once asked my dad if life was really like that in the 50s and 60s and he sat me down and reminded me of McCarthyism and racial unrest. No one he knew ever lived like that.
It was ALWAYS an idyll intended to make people forget about the “uppity Negroes” wanting “rights”, the Cold War, and the impending Nuclear Armageddon. It was White America’s security blanket.

You guys should try actually LIVING in this s***hole. A whole bunch of people hate gays with a passion here. My girlfriend has had her car’s rainbow Key West sticker keyed repeatedly (at a public college, that prides itself on DIVERSITY!!!!) both sides of the car keyed, I’ve had cars of tineyhiney hets drive by and scream, “f*cking dyke, Ill KILL youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu” because I comitted the heinous crime of walking down a public street (wearing surgical scrubs, not leather, so WTF?) not to mention that my presence alone can send every het male within sight into a rutting frenzy, when I walk into Publix. We already have a State DOMA, but that’s not GOOD enough, they voted last year to ban ANY kind of domestic partnership, het or gay.
Thier current projects are to force couples to undergo a 6-MONTH “counseling class” (at their churches, of course) before being allowed to apply for a marriage license and (…wait for it….) to outlaw all forms of birth control because a 1-second old cytoblast is a person.
