I’m not sure exactly how you are defining European Countries or Western Europe, but my list of European nations without some form of partner recognition includes:

Albania
Belerus
Bosnia – Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Cyprus
Estonia
Faroe Islands
Greece
Latvia
Liechtenstein
Lithuania
Malta
Macedonia
Moldova
Monaco
Montenegro
Poland
Romania
Russia
San Marino
Serbia
Slovakia
Ukraine

oh, and of course, the Vatican City

I hadn’t include the British Crown protectorates but probably should.

The other western European hold-outs are all microstates – Jersey, Mann, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican & Malta – and of these several are making moves towards equality.

Icelandic parliment already discussed same-sex marriage one time. It must come before them a second time after being assigned to a special committee (which is quite busy right now) but then they refer it back to the parliment, where it can be voted into law. When it was brought up recently for the first of the two required times, there were no objections. With a lesbian prime minister, and the fact it was never really an issue here, I foresee smooth sailing. The only holdup is that all the financial issues are taking priority of this committee’s time.

Portugal, Iceland, Nepal, in that order. The Italian judges are almost definitely Catholics, and the chances of Pope Ratty not holding over them the threat of excommunication is pretty damned low IMO. He might be willing to voerlook it in Portugal, but Italy is literally his back yard.

a measured dose of restraint is in order, folks. the ruling in italy has a variety of ways it could be coming down. so maybe we should just wait a little before starting the party. but i’l be the first to sing “laciante mi cantare” (sp?) lol

In fact, after Portugal, I would put my money on Iceland.
