I didn’t go through an ex-gay program but I constructed one for myself that was just as demoralizing as Bussee’s experience. I can’t read this without thinking how difficult it is revisit the story about how one deludes ones self, persist with a idea until it’s failure can no longer be hidden. It’s a dreadful feeling to reach that point when you finally understand that all the promise of change simply isn’t going to come and that you could have spent your time loving yourself for what you are.
