That sure is a lot of luggage for a 10-day trip. Nor does it look like his "assistant" is doing much assisting. Even is his going to Rentboy.com was innocuous, he certainly would have realized otherwise once he got to the site that these escorts were not hiring out as personal assistants. His right wing cronies might buy this crap but I doubt anybody else does.

Slightly off topic...

$87,000 for expert testimony, is that the going rate in the U.S.? To me that sounds suspicious of being paid to say whatever the AG wanted him to say.

For anyone who is interested: Yesterday I ran across Rekers' Curriculum Vitae (PDF) on professorgeorge.com. Today it is gone (all 13 pages of it). BUT there is still a copy available in the form of Google docs. I suspect it may disappear soon just as Google caches do, but I believe that problem has been taken care of. (Note: when the file first loads the text is very blurry, but it will clear up)

By the way, you left out the most crucial qualification: 8″ uncut. How could you have missed that?

Next time I’m in a position to hire an assistant, I’m going to have to insist on seeing that on a resume.

I trust that you'll give his qualifications a thorough vetting in the interview process, Jim. After all, one must have standards and lying about one's qualifications is usually seen as being ill-advised when seeking employment. Mr. Rekker's no doubt sought value for his money so likewise performed his own verification of Geo's resume.

So many fascinating layers here:

1. OK, Dr. Rekers, let's say your explanation of needing a heavy lifting assistant is fully true -- not a quarter-truth, not a half-truth, a full truth. I trust it's true because you are a Christian and Christians are instructed not to bear false witness. So, that said, where, exactly did you connect with or find the assistant?

2. If Dr. Rekers can be in severe, pathological denial, it greatly raises suspicions about Peter LaBarbera, Matt Barber, Brian Brown, Janet Folger Porter, Tony Perkins, Brian Camenker, and others. I'm not actually in the school that says these people "have to be" closet cases -- I do think a small of straight people can become obsessed with homosexuality for idiosyncratic reasons (probably connected to childhood trauma). However. If Rekers has maintained a "straight" charade (denial to the point of convincing themselves) for decades, so can others. Like LaBarbera. Some of the arch-homophobes curiously kind of do look gay (Brown)/lesbian (Porter).

3. Then there's the web of relationships and contributions to gay-bashing endeavors that Rekers has received and made, including in Florida. In Florida this includes, apparently, taxpayer money giving him $87,000 to develop a anti-gay-adoption report.

4. The man is apparently wealthy. Most people can't afford to hire a hooker for 10 days straights. I would love to know exactly how much money changed hands.

5. And where does he get his money? The state of Florida?

6. So who has quoted and used Rekers' documents or research? Probably some of the people regularly featured on this very website.

7. The FRC referred to him as being c. 1983 a psychiatrist at the University of South Carolina medical school. I wonder what the University of South Carolina medical school thinks? For how long was there? Anybody want to ask?

8. What about all his patients...all his students? His teen sex questions website counselees? Any comments from any of them?

9. He campaigned against gay adoption, while he himself apparently adopted a 16 year old boy. I guess he was allowed because, of course, he's not gay. (Is or was there a wife involved?)

10. I bet there are other layers I am not thinking of, and other connections and side stories that are yet to emerge.

11. To what extent is Tony Perkins, now, not telling the truth about his interactions with Rekers?

Rekers, in his capacity as both a Super Christian and a proponent of NARTHian "science," has for decades been accustomed to having his BS enthusiastically accepted by his usual limited audience. Now, some of them may buy his preposterous rent-a-boy explanations, but everyone outside of the Bible-y/Science-y bubble will be rolling on the floor.

It's appropriate that the combination of Bible-y + Science-y = BS.
