I’m not concerned about the filibuster.

McCain cannot filibuster the amendment – that came out of committee as part of the bill. He can only filibuster the entire Defence Bill.

And there are not going to be enough Republicans who are so anti-gay that they will oppose the entire Defense bill. I doubt even Webb would join that effort.

McCain’s filibuster threat concerns me. If Jim Webb votes against us, that cancels out Susan Collins, leaving us one vote shy. We need at least on more Republican. I don’t know if I see that happening.

And I hope that the local chapters of HRC and other gay organizations in VA are taking steps to ensure this a-whole is not re elected, or at least he does not see one cent of gay money in his campaign.

Based on how McCain is acting now, faced with the Tea Bagger threat and JD Hayworth running against him, there is no doubt in my mind that McCain would have caved in to threats from the party leaders and we would be looking at a vote on a Federal Marriage Amendment and other anti-gay measures.

At the same time, I’m not giving the Democrats a 100% free pass either, they are the lesser of the two evils.
